Does anyone use an eReader? Does anyone have the Amazon Kindle or B&N Nook? Is one better than the other or are they pretty much the same? I know that the Nook can come in color, but does Amazon have access to more titles?<div>
</div><div>And if you use one of these to read, how long does it take to get used to reading the thing instead of flipping pages in a regular hardback or paperback?</div>

but there is a heavy rumor in the tech blogs that the new Nooks will run Android.

do you use the Kindle app? Or iBooks?<div>
</div><div>And how is the reading experience? I know that the technology used in the iPad is different than the Nook/Kindle (backlit vs ???) and supposedly has an effect on eye fatigue over time? But I'm not sure of all the details.</div>

mainly because Kindle has a bigger selection and cheaper books.

I changed my tones to sepia and have had no issues of eye fatigue, but default is black on white and it was rough.

I hate reading for too long on the computer, but the screen on the Kindle is beautiful. If you like to read at night before bed and don't want to be looking at a backlit monitor, the Kindle may be right for you. If you want beautiful colors (or color period), then the Nook Color would be the way to go. The nook color screen is not e-ink like the b/w ereaders, but more like an iPad's screen.<div>
</div><div>If you get a kindle, I highly recommend the Amazon branded kindle cases/covers. I have the lighted one and I can read in bed while my wife is going to sleep. It's bright enough to light the screen but has much less light output than an older model cell phone screen.</div>

You can read in the sun, the battery lasts forever, etc. If you like older books too, you can download stuff copyrighted prior to 1930 for free and that practically pays the price. The downside is that maps and illustrations suck, but I don't read a lot of books w/ that anyway (In With The Old Breed was an exception where the battlefield maps were pretty small and hard to read).

cheaper startup cost ($140)<div>books are cheaper
<div>easier on the eyes (not backlit, the eInk looks like paper, and no glare)</div><div>battery last FOREVER (you can go weeks with moderate use without a charge)</div><div>
</div><div>If you genuinely want an E-reader, there is no comparison. Get the Kindle. If you want something that you can surf the web with and play games on, then get something else.</div><div>
</div><div>If all you are going to do is read books, stay away from color or backlit screens.</div> </div>

I know that sounds crummy, but if they are actually doing what they say they are doing, then ads will only be there when the device is on standby. In other words, you might have an ad on the screen for something when you pick up your Kindle to read, but it will go away once you power the thing back up. Also, you will be getting a $25 discount to have that creepy Emily Dickinson picture never show up.

Make your Nook an Android

My vote is also for Kindle. The color screens on the ipad and nook make my eyes feel tired after reading for a while. I have had a Kindle for 3 years and it is one of the most used presents I have ever received. Battery life is fantastic and its simplicity is perfect for reading.

I really like it and use it all the time. Had I made the purchase myself I might have gone Kindle because Amazon seems to have a wider selection. Most of what I read on my Nook are free ePubs and PDFs I get from various websites, but I have also bought a couple books.

The main reason being the screen issue. If I wanted to read a book off of a computer screen, I would. I got one around christmas, and I love it.

I've read that the Amazon covers can cause the Kindle to short out. That said, my wife has an Amazon cover and hasn't had any problems. The original poster just might want to do a little research before buying a cover if he goes with the Kindle.

Also, there is a pretty good review on amazon that compares the Nook and Kindle. It should be the first review on the Kindle page.

If you want to just read books go with the Kindle. It can be read anywhere a book can with no eye strain. The Kindle doesn't really have a "screen" per say.. its just pretty much a layer of film to contain the e-ink. So 0 eye strain.
