If you have time and a car, take Topanga canyon road from the Northridge area. Comes out in Malibu. One of the coolest drives.

i didn’t find too many good restaurants in the 3 months i was there that wasn’t super expensive. And i was a cheap turd at that point of my life. It’s a very pretty place if you could take away all of the people.

I haven't spent much time there but I really enjoyed the USS Iowa. It's at San Pedro.

Griffith Observatory is very cool, and free! Great views of the Hollywood sign and LA.

You can pay for a guide to walk you up to the Hollywood Sign at Sunset. The view up there as it turns dark is amazing and on our tour we stopped by the Griffith Observatory on the walk back down which is also great and amazing view (so many movie scenes are filmed there too). We learned a ton from our guide (who of course was also an actor). It was just something I throw onto our family trip a few years ago and honestly ended up being one of our favorite things.

One cheap thing...go down to Huntington Beach and do a campfire at night. They have tons of free firepits and alot of places sell wood. You can't do that on our beaches here (Gulf Shores, Destin, 30a).

Not sure about eats, but when I stayed in LA for the Long Beach baseball series a few years ago, I got a good deal on the Queen Mary docked in Long Beach for the weekend. Was a special memory. Felt a little like the Titanic. A real throwback in time.

So far, going to Rams vs Seahawks, Tame Impala, and a tour downtown (not sure specifics). Is whale watching worth it? The campfire on the beach sounds cool.

I've done whale watching out of Redondo Beach. It was pretty cool. The Redondo Pier/Harbor is a SoCal experience for sure. You can actually get some decent cheap seafood there.

We did a whale watching tour and didn't see any. Saw dolphins. Other than that you're just paying for a boat ride. I'd put that down the list if I did it again. I would suggest doing the Santa Monica Pier instead (especailly if you have kids since they have some rides).
