The wife and I are setting up a trip to LV with some friends. I have been there a handful of times (New York New York, Venetian, a condo right off the strip). We want to stay on the strip and somewhere a little nicer than NY NY and probably not as expensive than Venetian. Any suggestions?

My wife and I recently stayed at the Belagio. My dad lives just outside of Vegas so we were only there one night. Otherwise we wouldn't have paid that much. The fountain view room was well worth it. Depending on how long you are staying I would recommend it. Not sure how it compares in price to the Venetian, but I know it is a little steep.

If you want one of the casinos, Aria is really nice. Cosmopolitan is there as well. Encore is a further north, but also a great. The Cromwell just opened, it's just north of Bally's where Wild Bill's used to be...haven't been there but it definitely looked nice. Just a hotel, no casino with The Cromwell.

There are tons of options for hotels in Vegas at all different price points. Go to www.caesars.com and put in your dates to seee the rates you can get at all the Caesar's owned properties (Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Cromwell, Paris, Bally's, Flamingo, Linq, Rio and Harrahs) at the same time.

Strip options that I would classify as being "between" NYNY and Venetian are:

Mandalay Bay, Mirage, Monte Carlo, TI, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Bally's and MGM. (I would put Cromwell in that category also - but they price it higher than it is worth - also FWIW Cromwell does have a casino not sure why the above poster did not think it had one).

Places that are on par or above Venetian/Palazzo in qualifty would include - Aria, Cosmopolitan, Bellagio and Wynn/Encore.

Caesar's Palace is difficult to categorize because room quality varies greatly between the towers. The newer nicer rooms (Augustus or Octaviou Towers) I would rate above the Venetian, but the Roman Tower rooms will be similar to NYNY.

Time of year makes a difference also as you might want to take into account the quality of the pool facility if you are there in the summer - that varies greatly between the properties.

In terms of value for the money for room quality I think right now Bally's is a good deal. Their Jubilee Tower rooms were recently renovated and are nice. Flamingo Go rooms are also OK for what is usually a relatively cheap price. I don't particurlarly like either the Flamingo or Bally's casinos - but they are centrally located so you have lots of options for gaming in other casinos. Check out the rates that you can get for your dates and I if you want I would be happy to give you my thoughts on the best deal depending on your budget. I have stayed at most of the strip properties at least once.

I have stayed at Aria, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio, and Mirage within the last 8 months. Of those I would put Aria on the top of my list for room, price, taxi lines, and pool. If I had to go for pleasure instead of work, I'd choose Aria. I think my room rate was around $129/night + fees/tax.

I just stayed at Mirage a week ago for $90 a night for a strip view room. It was nice and a great location.

We are going in Aug. so wife wants a decent pool (not too hard to find in LV). I want to be on the strip or as close as possible. Would like rooms nicer than NYNY, where the room feels like your are in a comfort inn.

Thanks for the responses that were already given. Really appreciate it.

Shine003. That is incorrect. There is definitely a casino at The Cromwell. Slots and table games.

I always stay at Planet Hollywood mainly because its the nicest place I can get comped lol. Rooms are pretty much similar to the old Alladin not much updating besides Hollywood décor. The big bathrooms are nice. But I like the central location on the strip. Its connected to a mall which is nice. The ppol area is about average for the strip I'd say. There are 2 ppols on the 6th floor I believe.

On a side note I'll be going in April during the spring game does anyone know of a bar or sportsbook that plays BTN all the time?

With clients at the Aria, heading out in a bit to Rascall Flares, but the atmosphere here is awesome! Not sure about the pool but this place is definitely hopping.

I have been to Vegas multiple times over the past 15 years and stayed at a variety of places from the dumps to the pretty decent (Gold Coast, Imperial Palace, Exaclibur, Luxor, MGM, etc.) and obviously the MGM would stand out from the places I have stayed at. If your going in teh summer, the pool or should I say 'pools' (there are probably 5 or 6 different pool areas, lazy rivers, and 'Wet Replublic' were incredible and the rooms were very nice in our tower.
