A better man than he was a singer. And he was a great singer.

I already knew a lot of relatively obscure Beach Boys songs when Brian Wilson died, in addition to their hits of course, but after he died I decided to start digging even deeper now and then and this is one of the ones so far I've found that has "summer" in the title.

Here's a big hit from the mid-70s with a pretty awesome marimba solo in it. The marimba player is named Bo Wagner and he was born 80 years ago today on Sept 20, 1945. He died several years ago. RIP Bo. Love this tune.

I found a video of him doing the marimba solo live as an old dude.

Sunday (9/21) is the birthday of Don Felder. He joined the Eagles, a group where everyone sang the harmonies, but while a great guitarist, he didn't sing all that well, so he was an exception to singing for the band (though he performed a few background vocals in the below clip). He contributed to one of the band's biggest hits, Hotel California, though his contribution was a point of contention that ended up years later in a lawsuit (after he had been kicked out of the band). Tuesday (9/23) was the birthday of the late, great, Ray Charles Robinson. He's more commonly known by his stage name, Ray Charles. To celebrate:

Here's one of Ray Charles' big hits. He came up with this one nice in concert when his band went through all their songs and there was still time left to play so he had to make up something on the spot. This is what he came up with. Where was the concert, you ask? Brownsville, PA.

I've never heard of Carl Van Osten but I have heard of Nazz. They put out three albums. Their first was named Nazz. Their second was named Nazz Nazz. Their third was named Nazz III. Nazz was Todd Rundgren's first group. Know that Todd Rundgren hit "Hello It's Me?" Well Nazz recorded and released a version of it years earlier and it's below. I like the Todd Rundgren version much better. The version below is too slow. I don't know if it's true, but I've read that "Hello, It's Me" is the first song Todd Rundgren ever wrote.
