Not sure what I would pick but if you are about to die, why are you ordering a "diet" drink? At that point does it really matter if you have some extra calories?

Kelly Gissendaner, 47, was sentenced to death for the 1997 crime in which she recruited her lover, Gregory Owen, to kill her husband. Her execution is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday. She's requested a last meal of cheese dip and chips, Texas fajita nachos and a diet frosted lemonade.

I guess fat southern women are always "dieting"

This practice was discontinued in Texas after an inmate ordered a feast for a last meal and refused to eat any of it.

I think it still goes on in most other death penalty states, though. Georgia still has it (obviously).

Also, I've met people who legitimately prefer the lovely taste of aspartame.

Wow, this thread is a really proud moment in board history. Have you guys graduated grammar school?

Anyway, I'd have to assume it's not so much for the "diet" aspect as it is that she liked or was used to drinking it. People don't chug 12 Bud Lights at a time because they're trying to stay trim. Bud Light doesn't make much sense to me, either, but different strokes.

My final meal would consist of beans, beer, and eggs. If I'm going out everyone in the room is going to need nose plugs for my final out-gassing.

You'd be prepping for no reason. Part of the pre-execution ritual is a complete... um... rinsing of the condemned.

Gonna take a WILD guess here and say "because she likes the taste better???" I've started to switch back from Diet, to regular, and it isn't easy IMHO. Not that I drink it often, at all, but even Snapple is a rough taste switch the first couple of times IMHO.

Couldn't he save it in his shoe and eat it right before? I like his idea of one final FU to the man.

She ordered it because, a diet lemonade wouldn't make her want to stick around for more .

This is reminiscent of the University of Texas sniper some years ago. When the police got to the tower from which he has shooting at people, they found a lost of ammunition and some deodorant. Evidently, he was willing to kill but did not want to offend.

I was working in Atlanta last week and saw this on the news and couldn't stop laughing (yes i know that's pretty messed up).

Pope Francis asked for her life to be spared and some people thought it might happen. Hope she enjoyed her meal.

A steak from Del Friscos, a double cheeseburger from Shake Shack, a margarita pizza pie from Patsy's, and a Fat Nini 69. Nobody specified a price or time limit, right?

This was actually interesting watching the liberal press spin. Her boyfriend who actually committed the murder, took a plea bargin for life in prison and is actually elgible for parole in eight years. She decided ti roll the dice with a jury trial and lost. The press was trying to spin it as though the system were somehow flawed, and it is but not for the reasons the mentioned. She and her attorneys rolled the dice and lost...she lost big!

I haven't seen any spin. If you are against the death penalty you are against it. It doesn't really require mental gymnastics. It does strike me as odd that a woman would get the death penalty even though she didn't actually kill anyone. Texas!

You're starting to worry me Hudson. This new, "lighter" you - nothing implied there - is a breath of fresh air. I gotta assume you've finished your PHD or something? [thumb2]

I'm generally liberal and I support the death penalty. So there!
That's okay. I'm conservative and against the death penalty. Not for any soft spot over this piece of trash or anything, but I don't feel comfortable giving a government the power to put its citizens to death.

She planned the murder and had her boyfriend kill her husband, she deserved to die according to the law.
Shame her boyfriend didn't get the max for cold blooded murder , but got out of the death penalty by testifying against her.

As for my thoughts, the killer didn't receive the death penalty , so she should have received life without a chance of parole.
Both should have been executed or both life without parole if one is allowed to live.
I know the court system don't work that way, so won't complain about her being the only one to get the death penalty and have it carried out.
