On this day 75 years ago, the United States of America was attacked by the Japanese Empire. It was on a Sunday morning. Two waves of Japanese planes hit the U.S. that day, taking less than two hours to complete its mission. 2,335 American service members lost their lives. Another 68 civilians did as well.

Of the American Pacific Fleet, 8 of 9 battleships were sunk or severely damaged, 3 destroyers damaged, and 3 cruisers damaged. All but the USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, and USS Utah would return to service.

The American aircraft carriers were out on exercises and suffered no losses.

Airfields on Oahu were hit as well, resulting in the loss of 188 planes and another 159 damaged.

This only tells a small fraction of the story...

DO NOT EVER ASK ME TO APOLOGIZE FOR DROPPING THE BOMB!!!

AMEN!!!!

Wow...75 years. Anyone know how many Pearl Harbor survivors are still with us??

And sure that was a great tactical victory for Japan, but what a colossal strategic disaster. After such huge losses to the Pacific Fleet, hard to believe about 6 months later the tide would already turn against Japan at the Battle of Midway with those carriers that Japan had missed.
