good call One Nation on maxing the Hz if you can afford it. And you're probably right on a Mac/PC type argument.<div>
</div><div>I would also say to the glare complainers to buy some dang curtains and black that living room into a theater if it bothers you</div>

Bought a 50" Panny plasma two years ago. High end. It sucked. It was also stolen. After I bought it, not before.
Bought a 47 LG LCD last year. It is great.
Prompted by your post, I just ordered a 55" LG LCD 55LK520 thru Amazon for $1,024. Free shipping. No tax. 2011 model. Matte finish screen.
I researched for months before pulling the trigger.
Considered an "internet app" LED LCD but they ain't yet ready for prime time. Per my research. Also less to go wrong with straight LCD.
Viewing angle isn't a big problem with newer LCD sets within reason.
I greatly anticipate watching my Rebels go down in flames in widescreen HD majesty.

if you're interested. Name-brand TV's usually don't break within a few years but everyone knows someone who spent a bundle on a name-brand dud. It happens. Look at Ole Miss with Houston Nutt--poor comparison???

I had a similar budget to StratDawg. Decided to get an LCD or plasma from a name vendor, Samsung or Panasonic or Sony. I know LED's are the best but excluded them for budget reasons.

I did a ton of research and then hit the stores. Plasmas didn't look as good and they do still havesome issues. So Samsung LCD it was.

I did decide to spend a little more to get a high-end model with better refresh rate, more connections, etc.

Ended up getting this one from Best Buy for $900 --- Samsung 46"LCD 630 Series - LN46D630. Incredible picture, great viewing angles.

has a better picture thanmy 46 Sony Bravia LCD. And the Sony has a really good pic from any angle. The Panny is the most impressive picture of any tv I've seen. Just bought it last year. But as someone else said it's best in low light. The knock on the plasmas was their life expectancy, but the newer ones have a longer life expectancy.

you sure know a lot about about television

Edited to add: i bought open-box from Best Buy on a Sony LCD. I bought on name, so keep in mind, Sony picture quality is not as vivid as others and tuningis slower. theres more of a pause when youre changing channels. Im still trying to find the benefits of paying more money for a Sony television.

I think Sony is the Packard-Bell of our decade.

Loving it. Got a huge discount. They took another ten percent off when I asked. Plus Insignia got a bad reputation so Best Buy covers them with 2 year parts and labor, one of the better warranties I've heard of.

Didn't get a manual but found it online.

Mine is two years old but I was about to pull the trigger on a 50" Panasonic until I saw it an the Samung 50" side by side. In the same lightng I was amazed at the difference. I play a good bit on the xbox and my kids have it on all the time, no burn in issues and an awesome picture.

I bought a 52" Sony LCD from Sam's. While I was waiting in line the manager told me if I would upgrade to a Business Member it would double the warranty and I could purchase an additional 1 year extended warranty for like $30. So 3 years of warranty for like $30. I never buy a ext. warranty but took him up on the offer. 6 months down the road on a bright sunny day a transformer on my street blew up and caught on fire taking out my new TV. Intermittent ghosting of picture every now and then. Called sam's ext. warranty folks told them what the problem was and they sent me a new 52" Sony with a lot more features than the one I purchased no questions asked and no one even looked at the TV. Let me keep the old one.
