I'm selling my house and inspector found heating unit in attic was rusting out. Anybody replaced one lately with any recommendations? The house is about 2000 sf in the Brandon-Reservoir area. What cost am I looking at. Thanks for any input.

I’m on the coast so can’t give you a company rec. But I had to replace my attic unit and the outside compressor last year and it cost me around $8K. If you’re not replacing the compressor you’ll pay less, but the attic unit was expensive to replace. They had to disassemble the old one in the attic to pass manageable pieces down the access ladder and reassemble the new one up there for the same reason. It took them an entire day.

I just replaced a furnace-a.c combo in my attic that handles the upstairs last week. Depending on what you get and if you only replace the heat, you are probably looking at $3,000 +\- $1000 depending on size, speed and brand.

I went with a Lennox, but priced trane, American solutions, carrier & Goodman. If I was selling, I would probably look at Goodman or that quality - that alone will save you money.

I’d guess $6-7k. I replaced an entire unit last year on a 1650 sqft house for a little under $5k, Tupelo area.

Replaced my attic air handler, and the outside compressor in December of 2017. 5 ton unit. RUUD (which is owned by Rheem) system. All electric. They also increased the size of the return vent. 2800 sq ft home. $3,850. With 10 year warranty from RUUD. It’s a standard 5 year, but you can go online and register your system with RUUD and they’ll give you an extra 5 years.

You’re lucky it’s only one. Had to replace both my units in the last 18 months. One rusted out the other compliments of lightning. 2 ton and 3.5 ton

Don't replace the whole unit, just swap out the heat. Was around $1k for us 6 yrs ago

I've had decent experiences with Climate Masters out of Pearl

^ have dealt with climate masters on a couple of warranty issues. They were solid to deal with.

4500 to 6000 in my part of the world depending on make of equipment and contractor. This is for AC and heat. If furnace only, should be less for sure.

My house has a Goodman furnace and it's 15 years old. Still runs great. The outside ac is a Rheem and it is also 15 years old. Not sure why the contractor installed 2 different brands when the house was built as I'm not the original owner. Bottom line.....Goodman's are known to be less expensive and some say they are not as good. But I wouldn't have a problem installing one if I was simply trying to sell my house.

Environment Masters did great work for me. Got a mid-range Lennox and it’s been really good. About $5k for a 3 ton.
