The keg definately helped with Mack's****Back in 91 I guess it was, we had gotten to be friends with some guys from Texas when they came to Starkville to see us beat their Longhorns. They came back for Super Bulldog Weekend to experience Dudy Noble. They showed up at about midnight that Friday night, and we immediately went to a keg party across the way from me at College Station. After the party was over, 11 of us piled in a buddy of mine's land yacht and headed to Mack's. We were headed out Oktock Rd shooting bottle rockets out the window while moving about 90 mph, wonder we didnt all die in a fiery crash. On the way out a corvette passed us doing about 110 on that same 2 lane road, it was the guy who owned the car we were in's sister. Needless to say the Texas guys were very impressed with Mack's and the whole weekend experience.
Actually, if you had heard it as many times as I have, you would know the words are:
"It ain't the weight that's got me, it's the funk that's killin' me....."
I don't have any stories that I can remember, each visit was a little cloudy for some reason.
Mack Banks still plays the Sparta Opry House w/ my wife's uncles sometimes. Still going strong.
One summer when I stayed in Starkpatch to work, it was either '88 or '89, me and a couple of buddies were bored and decided to head to Mack's. We got there and it was empty. Mack and one other person, the bartender I guess, were the only ones there. So the three of us sat at the bar and were treated to a personal performance by Mack playing guitar and singing on a barstool right next to us. Not sure when or how we got home that morning.
Another time a girl I knew was visiting from out of town and we got front row seats. Mack saw her and said "What's your name, sweetheart?" She told him and then he started to sing, Lisa's got a big ol' hairy ****y. She threw her bottle at the chicken wire, lol.
Is there a recording of Mack that I can buy/find anywhere? I have told people about this forever but it is hard for them to believe!
Some of his cassette tapes are still for sale in retail establishments in Mississippi, but only at certain truck stops on the discount rack. He's big with the truckers, go figure. I managed a truck stop for 2 years back in '93-'94. He dropped by to sell us some of his tapes, and I had to tell him some of my experiences at his place. I think a year or 2 after that, the supper club burnt down.
Tommy of Mack's song, "Ol' p.... ....... Tommy, he's got the blues tonight...", later became President of the Naked Juice company.Let's hear some stories.
