Anybody know of any entry level marketing/public relations jobs in the Birmingham area for a state grad? I have a friend that got her bachelor's in public relations from State and her masters in communication, public relations and corporate communication from ms college. She also has 4 months intern experience with River Oaks Health Care systems in Jackson.

Banks are always looking for tellers**

Although I'm not really being that sarcastic with that statement based on what I've seen some marketing/pr graduates end up with. The hospital experience might be what she needs to seriously promote.

Yep it's about to that point. Apparently it's a pretty tough field to get into. I thought there might be someone here that might know of something remotely related.

It is a very tough and overcrowded field to get into...if she can't get on with a hospital, law firm or ad agency, I would try media sales (radio, cable, televison or print). Ugh. I know, I've done it for too many years and right now it sucks and is dying a slow laborious death. But it gets you in the game and puts you in the face of the decision makers who might decide they need you at a later date. If she hustles and puts a 3 year deadline on that career...things might change in the economy or political landscape.

It's a living that provides benefits and puts you into the arena. Hold your nose and dive in...

She has a masters,so I think she'll be fine. What about some of the colleges in the Birmingham area. Tell her to talk to Sid Salter who does PR for State, he might have some connections.

I would tell her to avoid selling insurance unless she's truly desperate. They'll undoubtedly come calling to hire her.

Thanks for all of the advice y'all. I'll pass it along. Hopefully something will workout for her other than a teller position (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Tell her to check with The Southern Company, Southern Progress (part of Time, Inc), or maybe BellSouth/AT&T. Those are some of the bigger ones I can think of. There are hospitals aplenty....UAB, St Vincents, Brookwood, Children's, etc.

PR in radio was so bad my wife decided to go into teaching.

But it was a paycheck and health insurance.
