I was shocked to see it is half and half. I think because I grew up in the South.

I'm shocked that it's half and half, but even more shocked at which group prefers which. If you are further north, you're going to work/school in the dark regardless. What does it matter if it's another hour of darkness before it gets light once you're at work (outside of people working outside) if it means you are getting an hour of light at the end of the day when you may be able to use it.

For people in the south, staying on daylight savings time would at least mean you are getting some daylight when you are going to work and kids are going to school in daylight. I can see why people would be willing to not have any usable sunlight after work if it means they are going to work in the daylight also.

But instead it seems to be exactly the opposite for the most part. People that are already going to work in the dark don't want it to be dark for an hour longer at work in exchange for getting some usable daylight after work. People that generally don't have to go to work in the dark are willing to go to work in the dark if it means they get an extra hour of usable sunlight after work.
