Never went to Michael's, but reading the Patch article, it looks like the building is up for sale. Usually new owners come in and raise the rents. Sometimes with these long-time family places they just want to retire and there isn't a new generation to take over.

One exception in my town was the family who owned a popular pizzeria and Italian restaurant. They wanted to retire to Florida after 35 years in business so they found a new family to take over, trained the staff and handed over the recipes. The place is still very good.

I have been there many times......Some friends of mine stopped there on Thursday and the door was locked.
It’s sad , the small family owned bars took a big hit a few years ago and some just can’t catch up their losses.

Sounds like the owners also had staffing issues and were burned out from running the biz with the extra challenges.
