OT- movie "Black Mass" story of Whitey Bulger

Saw it today, pretty good. Similiar to The Departed w Jack Nicholson. Johnny Depp does a very good job playing Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, interestingly the role I most liked him most previously was FBI agent in Donnie Brasco. While not as good as The Departed and Donnie Brasco, it's not far behind. If you liked that genre you will like Black Mass. PS : very good soundtrack with gems from Allman Brothers, Stones, Joe Walsh and some others. Maybe a rip off of Scorcese's The Departed , but I liked it a lot.

Looking forward to seeing The Martian too.

Saw the Martian, liked it a lot. Damon was pretty good, and nice ensemble cast. Probably would have been much better in 3d, would highly recommend that. Gravity was awesome in 3d.

Nicholsons character in The Departed was loosely based on Bulger. I haven't seen the movie so I'm not sure if it was in there, but I hear that dude was into some very bizarre stuff.

I'm interested in seeing the Whitey Bulger movie. My family is originally from Boston and I know a few older guys who knew Whitey from his days in the Winter Hill Square area of Somerville, Mass. Surprising to me, some said that he helped a great many elderly residents there when they ran into problems with building inspections and other municipal type issues.

A former friend and classmate is a big time defense attorney in Boston and he defended Whitey's gal pal Catherine Greig in her trial. Will be interested to see how accurate the movie is to the actual story.
