OT: Moving Back to Nebraska...

Some may remember I posted around Thanksgiving that I was having difficulty finding work in Arizona, well other than a sort term temp job---nothing. We are intending to move back to Nebraska at the end of the school year (I could be back sooner) and would be interested if anyone knows of some open positions anywhere between Kearney and Omaha.

Kearney's housing market is absurd and you'll pay more for less than Lincoln or Omaha...that said, I wouldn't trade living here for either/or....lots of really good things happening in Kearney right now....would be glad to shoot you an email with some opportunities that I'm aware of (or connections I could put you in touch with) here in K-town

Kearney is one of the most pro-business communities you could find. Coupled with the University being there, the Buckle HQ, Cash-WA HQ, the new Community College ($23 million) breaking ground and the prospering hospitality sector (because of its enviable position on I-80), there are many opportunities. i would start with contacting the Visitors Bureau director and the Mayor.

York has some pretty good things going on, and because of its location you could commute to Kearney, Lincoln, Grand Island, or Hastings pretty easily.

Kearney is stupid expensive to live in. But there are actually more millionaires in Kearney than Lincoln. There are a plethora of companies if you have sales experience I would look into. Baldwins, Eatons, Cash-wa, Buckle and quite a few others that escape me at the moment. There are usually insurance companies hiring and I know for a fact one particular one is. Also it's long hours but you can make really good money working at schwans. Enough to pay the bills until you find something else at least. As mentioned above Kearney is crazy expensive to live in, but is growing very quickly, and you don't have to worry about near the crime you do in Lincoln or Omaha.

i dont live in Kearney now, , but am a native ot the town and will be there this weekend for a HS reunion. i would suggest you make a trip there and knock on some doors. In the Chamber of Commerce building (south 2nd Ave--main entrance into town)--there is the Visitors Bureau and the Buff . County Economic Development Council, both headed by men who are "in the know" about business and employment opportunities. They could save you a lot of time.

If you can't find work here in Arizona -- Phoenix area? -- I'm not sure what moving back to Nebraska accomplishes, unless you are moving in with relatives. Without knowing more about your qualifications, interests etc. it's hard to get a reading on your job prospects but if you are in metro Phoenix and work in sales, jobs should be as achievable as they will be in Nebraska -- and hunting for jobs where you live is much easier than taking a stab at finding one from 1000 miles away.

I can understand what you are saying, however, when your background is C-Level, convincing people that you are willing to work well below your background is not that simple---they follow their assumptions more than facts. And yes, nearly all of our family is in Nebraska.

I don't what your background of skills means but if you don't want to be on the Democrat gravy train and have no issues with a shovel and possible advancement to operation of horizontal drilling equipment then PM me and I might give you my employer's information.

Unlike the Arizona, Nebraska and, specifically, Lincoln's job market is booming with entrepreneurs, research, and general growth. Arizona's job market lull has been exacerbated by the baby boomers moving to warmer climates, imo. And their children follow, because just like you, they can not find quality jobs. So they live with their parents, have college degrees, and oversaturate the local job market.

It happens all over this country. The east coast is especially bad, as far as an overabundance of college-educated kids who can't find jobs to pay to barely subsidize the interest rates on their student loans.

Moving back to Nebraska may seem like a "leap," but I guarantee you will have more success. The salaries listed won't be comparable to Phoenix or Tucson, but you also have to remember the cost of living in Lincoln is drastically lower than most parts of the country.

Husker LLM...I'm not good, technically. I'm a Finance guy. My Wife, however, is very technical. How do I PM on this Board? If you are NOT set on Nebraska, Denver may have a few highly attractive options. My wife has some contacts and sat next to the Owner of a locally based Security Firm AV and Surveillance type stuff that offered her 6 figs after the flight, upon landing. I can pass you his website address that details what they do. Pretty much needs people to travel the Western States as an Account Rep to maintain current accounts.
