Any of y'all have any dealings with MS?

I had a cousin die from it in 1992. I think she probably live 15 to 20 years with it. She was in a wheel chair for a long time. I was young and she was older than me. I remember being around 8 and she was a teenager swinging me around by my arms. Then a few years later she learned she had it. I would imagine treatment is a lot better now.

Have multiple patients with it. It can be a very mild or a very devastating disease. So can be hard to make general comments about it. Former classmate of mine is an MS specialist at UAB. There are several infusion based medications that can help manage.

Also have patients, though mine are often specialized and don’t have typical manifestations. I’d agree with above. Would say the case described above (15-20 year life span with most in wheelchair) is on the bad end of the spectrum.

I had a personal scare with it a couple years ago, though turned out to *likely* be a toxic exposure that’s now resolved - was breathing burning plastic for a year until we figured out what was going on. Doing fine now, but it certainly let me see first hand how nebulous/frustrating the neuro process can be.

My wife has MS. Been on Ocrevus infusions for a few years now, and it has done a great job (so far) slowing the progression of her lesions. Also helps with some of the day to day symptoms that she was dealing with.

A cousin. She has been treated/under the care of Vanderbilt since diagnosis. That included a very serious brain tumor not related to the MS. Vanderbilt has been incredible, on both counts. You can't do better in the mid-south.

My sister. MS is all over the board as far as seriousness but I believe proper treatment can have a profound positive effect.

My dad’s business partner’s wife has had it for many years. 20 years or something like that. Her case is fairly well controlled with meds.
