She loved watching sports, especially SEC football (although she had nieces and nephews who went to Iowa and Iowa State, so she rooted for them too).
funny story- we went over to the 2003 NCAA basketball tourney in Birmingham to watch State play Butler. She told me that was the first basketball game she had attended since High School in Mt. Ayr, Iowa in 1952, when she and another coed kept a chart of every shot the High School team took (and made or missed).
At halftime, they'd give the chart to the Head coach (who was a run-and-gun coach like Loyola Marymount in the late 1980's), who'd then have his team make adjustments to where they'd shoot.
When Butler made that last second shot, mom and I were so depressed that we literally didn't move the next day. Sunday, when we decided to give away our tickets at church.
