With the passing of Bart Starr who was a great one but his name just sounded like a QB 's . Please give their position.

My first name belongs to my favorite NFL player ever. Johnny Unitas QB.

Magic Johnson

Muhammad Ali

I thought Peter Warrick was a great name for a Seminole wide receiver.

Jim Thorpe

Secretariat

Oil Can Boyd

Sue Bird, since her last name springs Larry to mind.

Fiction: Jimmy Chitwood. Although real life Maris Valainis may be just as good.

Fiction: Jesus Shuttlesworth

I think we are getting off topic a little and anot athlete every now and then is ok but we are getting into nick names and names that have nothing to do with the position they play. I did it myself with Clete Boyer who name Clete can be associated with baseballt it has nothing to do with 3rd base. It's up to you guys to stay the course or just give great athlete names. My next name is Mike Ditka. To me it sounds like a tight ends name. OFC

Sky will like this and hopefully Jim Sumner as well as Yankee guys. Never by any means known for his bat, it was still a great baseball name:

Gene "Stick" Michael- like I said never remember him as a hitter, Gene was an excellent defensive SS. He was on the thin side weight wise, hence "Stick." OFC

Dizzy Dean. His fastballs made batters dizzy, so the saying goes.

This one's a bit unorthodox but Tinker-Evers-Chance (Tinker to Evers to Chance) is such a great linking of a famous double-play combination trio. It's referenced in a poem called 'Baseball's Sad Lexicon'.

Dizzy was his nickname but that's fine if we want to go there. For example Edward Glenn Roberts was the real name of a NASCAR driver in the 60's. His nickname was "Fireball" which was a great name for a race car driver. Ironically he died on the track in a firery crash. OFC
