There will be lots of people walking around drinking alcohol on NYE. They'll have outdoor alcohol sales. Everything will be sold in a plastic cup/bottle.

Is bar hopping an option, or will everywhere be charging $20+ covers?

For big events, they usually block Broadway off to pedestrian only from Margiritaville down to the river and alcohol is sold on the street and allowed from that point on. Most of the bigger joints will have a bar that is no cover but a cover required to get to where the band is playing, some small places will have a cover charge at the door and some will only start charging after a certain time. Depends on the bar. I'd be prepared for an expensive drunk.

They'llmost likelysell wristbands that will get you in certain bars no cover. Expect lots of cover charges, and not really a lot of room to bar hop.

If you like good music, come check these guys out. 1/2 the band went to State - have played many a show at The Tavern. All original stuff and I guarantee they will rock the house. I believe the show starts at 8pm NYE and will last until..I can't think of anything better to do downtown in Nashville that night, to be honest.

Jamie Davis is playing with Leith Loftin at Bootleggers on the 29th at 10:00pm. Jamie Davis and Soul Gravy are playing the 30th at Whiskey Bent on Broadway. Jamie has a degree in Marketing from MSU.

And Paul Thorn New Year's Eve. Combine that with an MSU bowl win and that makes for an excellent weekend.

I've heard good things about the Boundry restaurant and am thinking of taking the wife there Thursday night. Any other good places to eat close by that we shouldn't miss?

Monel's in Germantown:<div>Family style setup, awesome fried chicken, huge portions and they keep em comin... you will be totally stuffed but very glad you went</div><div>
</div><div>Arnold's on 8th Ave:</div><div>My other favorite, they are only open on the weekdays and the line usually snakes around the building at lunchtime. Serious down home cookin, it eats like a Thanksgiving dinner there, very rich and flavorful food... I know the Arnolds, great family</div><div>
</div><div>Virago (Sushi) in the Gulch:</div><div>Very trendy place, lots and lots of eye candy... a place to be seen as much as a place to go eat, but you won't regret it. Outstanding sushi, but you will pay a few bucks for the experience. Also, the Whiskey Kitchen is next door and a good followup bar for a nightcap. Same owner runs all of the restaurants in that square and they all have the "trendy" feel to them</div><div>
</div><div>Patterson House, Midtown:</div><div>$11 cocktails, but they drink like a delicacy... one of Nashville's few "really big city" type of atmosphere bars that typically only exist in New York or Chicago. Not necessarily a Nashville feel to the place but I highly recommend it if you can get a table. Relatively small place and it stays full.</div><div>
</div><div>Broadway Brewhouse and Mojo Grill downtown:</div><div>Badass "mojo" hot wings are worth stopping in for. Lots of good beers on tap.</div><div>
</div><div>Enjoy...</div>

Look at Germantown Cafe as well.
Puckett's Downtown
The Boundry is a cool place as well.
Want hole-in-the-wall sushi? Try Tenno on West End.
Want old school Nashville food? Try The Soda Shop, or Rotier's. They're both on Elliston Place down the road from one another. Both are landmarks.
Copper Kettle is a good place to grab some grub as well. Enjoy.
