I've been in various levels of HR Management for a long time now and there is

no easy way to broach this subject. I've had to speak with people on this same issue in the past and there's just no way you don't embarrass this individual. If there's another co-worker that she's close with the best thing to do might be to have that individual speak with her. If not, then you'll have to sit her down and discuss the issue and that won't be easy. Again, no way not to hurt her feelings but you can't let the problem persist. I actually had an employee once who literally was the "cat lady" we've all heard of. I counseled her one day on her personal hygiene and did it as eloquently as possible. She never showed back up.

I think the the inbox/outbox system would work well for you.

Set up a table outside your office or near the door to your office with two little trays, and implement the system. If she tries to bypass, by talking to you about what she's brought you, listen to her, but do not let her put it on your desk. The inbox/outbox system can easily be ignored. Gotta take a broken windows policy on it or it will never work.

I don't know how your office is configured, but if she's pulling reception duty, then you gotta stop that ****. Cut some dead weight somewhere, hire someone young to answer the phone and run errands for the hippie for cheap, and get her moved to the back of the office.

A little Vicks VapOrub under your nose prior to close encounters. But seriously,

is she due for a review and raise anytime soon?

Go through any minor negatives in her performance, then load up on her positives, then tell she's earned a raise.

Then tell her there's one more thing you need to discuss and it's an awkward topic. Tell her you need her to do something about her body odor.

Finish up on a positive about how she's so valuable to the firm and deserving of the raise.

Take her out for a few drinks after work for happy hour and then back to your place for a two some in the tub. Candles and ****. Wear a luffa condom and do some deep cleaning.

Give her a nice soap and bath salt arrangement for Christmas. Or Thanksgiving ... or Halloween ... or a spontaneous gift Monday.
