When I was eight years old, I thought was awake in bed and saw a demon looking creature coming at me. I was frozen and could not move. Then all of the sudden I started screaming for my dad and it went away. Not long after I got out of the Marine Corps, I had four more-night terrors. Two of them was a skull coming at me and got face to face with me. I thought I was awake. I could not move, and my wife said that I started to scream, and she said my eyes were open. Then it went away. The other two times it was a white face man standing at the end of my bed looking down at me. I remember I came up swinging. It went away. I thought I was awake. Until today I did not know what it was. I was just reading and found articles on Night Terror. I have not had another one in 30 years. My wife said when I first got home from desert storm I would stand up in the bed swinging. I don't remember that. I must have been regular dreaming. I don't dream or remember dreams, but I remember those four occasions.

Am I alone on this board. Has anyone else experience it?

I had a few instances similar. I was totally paralyzed at the time too. I also used to see ghosts, demons etc. I have always had an ability to perceive the unseen. I was born on March 15 so that’s supposed to be a supernatural day. It wasn’t until I was saved by the blood of Jesus and learned spiritual warfare that this stopped happening. If you or anyone ever feels this sort of thing coming on or sense an evil presence, audibly plead the blood of Jesus and command the evil to leave in the name of Jesus and the power that he gives the body of Christ. Try that and you will understand how Jesus said all things are possible through him. You will feel His power.

Sleep paralysis… look it up and read some of the stories. Never happened to me but one of my friends. Sounds terrifying

I had a friend in grade school that had them. He had one multiple times of a demon walking up the wooden stairs in his house to his bedroom and crawling up on his bed breathing on him. He would tell them to go away in the name of Jesus.

Yeah, you can have hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations along with sleep paralysis. Some increased association with narcolepsy as well.

I actually had a few without hallucinations back when I was a kid. Would wake up and couldn’t move… would be a weird, half awake state but I was definitely conscious and couldn’t move and it was awful. I think I usually went to sleep and woke up out of it. Typically happened on Saturdays or days when there wasn’t some expectation to wake up and go to school, church, etc

Guys ,,this will be the not appropriate response but,
The state of ms, ark, mo(2.5 hour ride recreation) and Fl, can give you something for night terrors.

I experience sleep paralysis fairly regularly, almost exclusively when I am really tired and take a nap during the day. I almost never experience it during my regular night time sleep patterns.

The best way I know to describe it is that you are keenly aware of your surroundings and that you are awake but you simply can't move your body an inch. It also feels like an elephant is sitting on top of you and you are having trouble breathing. It feels like an eternity, but probably only last a few seconds.

My doctor says not getting enough sleep is the likely cause.

I’d probably need to be checked into a mental institution if that happened to me.

Night terrors run in my family. All sorts of fun, painful, and scary stories.
I used to store a rifle under the bed, then one night I jumped out of bed, and as my wife asked what was going on, I knelt down, grabbed the rifle, and then somersaulted into a firing position facing the door. Needless to say I’ve relocated the rifle now, but I’d be hard-pressed to perform that same trick while awake.

When I was in the hospital a few months back after gallbladder surgery I saw an Indian in full headdress standing at the foot of my bed. I remember fireworks coming out of the wall and having a tongue and groove vaulted ceiling in my hospital room none of which anyone else saw. Of course I was under the influence of morphine but it all looked real.

You are not alone. I’ve had probably over 50 maybe 100. Have ranged from big black cats to this succubus demon lady thing. Got very infrequent as I got older, however since starting cpap and a beta blocker, they are back much more frequently.

You guys never would’ve made it back when hallucinogenics were popular. I knew that pink Holstein cow wasn’t real!

There is a regular poster on this board who may be able to explain all of this, especially that part about demons.

I had one once when I was in my 20's... Similar to yours; Demon sitting on my chest and waking up paralyzed. Scared the **** outta me. I read it's something to do with sudden waking from deep REM sleep.

No. My brother in law had the same experience as a child.

Never had any crazy stuff like that happen. Lots of nightmares about spooky crap chasing me and stuff, but nothing like that.

I did have an experience in my teens were I woke up and started floating to the ceiling. Turned back and looked and I was still on the bed sleeping. I then really woke up and sat straight up in bed and was out of breath like I had been suffocating.

happened that one time and one time only.

Mostly I just dream about driving down the road and throwing money out the window like Jessie in season 5 of Breaking Bad. I guess that’s from doing accounting work all day for people.

I've had the sleep paralysis thing. It absolutely sucks. If it happens these days, it is typically on a rare occasion that I take a nap during the day. Always when laying on my back. Made me wonder if there was some apnea cause as I felt like I couldn't move or breathe.

In cases like yours, I usually just mail the DSM and a sharpie and ask people to mark out the criteria that don’t apply

When I was 8-10, I had a dream where I was walking alone through a steel foundry when it starts falling in. I start running and then realize I won't make it out. Just before it catches me, I wake up. Had that same dream 3 or 4 times as a kid. Of all the dreams I've had in my life, that's the only one I remember.

About that same time, I woke up paralyzed once. It gradually went away. Remember rolling out of bed and not being able to stand up for what seemed like 2-3 minutes.

I don't know why but I never told my parents about either of these.
