Ok. This team is clearly going nowhere. I’m in the sell at the deadline camp.

Get something for Toffoli, miller, and Nosek.

Builds usually vary, they don't go straight up.

Elliotte Friedman is reporting the Devils and Flames have hit a snag in a deal for Markstrom and a D man. The Flames want Holtz, the Devils want the Flames to retain money. So hopefully Fitz will not find a way to overpay for a goalie.

He needs to realize he hesitated too long and lost. Deserved better in Carolina, but the result fits perfectly into how this season is going. As I said a few months ago, it just is not our year. With injuries and questionable coaching decisions this team has never gelled!

Fitzgerald is a dope if he deals away Holtz

One positive from last night, I loved the physicality the Devils showed. I would highlight Timo Meier and Kevin Bahl, I hope it continues.

Last night was a well played game against a good team. It's just tough to appreciate given it's another loss in a season when we've seen too many of them. But we did play well.

If he's adamant on keeping Lindy, I'd trade Holtz. Since Holtz isn't going to see anything other than 4th line minutes with Lindy most of the time.

If his plan is to get rid of Lindy, then he has to keep Holtz.
I think Fitz should trade Holtz only if he thinks it's a good deal. Holtz is 22. Tons of career left. If he's trading him because Ruff is the coach, and may be coach for another couple years, I don't think that is good mgmt.

Even for as difficult as this season has been I'd be very wary trading a 22 year old Holtz for something like say Markstrom, who is a 34 years old. Especially when it looks unlikely it get's us into and on a long playoff run this season.

If Fitzy can’t find a relatively cheap goaltender for the rest of the season just ride it out . Sell some pieces at the deadline if we are totally out of it . Let these young dmen continue to play a **** ton of minutes. Figure out goaltending in the offseason

what will Fitzgerald get in return for Toffoli at the deadline? Will it be as good as Sharongovich?

He’s been bent over in too many trades.
If he trades Holtz for a 34-yr old he’s telling us he doesn’t expect to be in NJ much longer.

I keep saying Kahkonen.

Can't imagine he would cost a ton, still youngish, not a big contract and a UFA at years end.

That last point meaning we can sign him if he looks pretty good, but let him walk if he doesn't.

Bingo, we were great for 64 minutes, then Niko forgot to box out. It is just the way the year has gone.

I think Timo will be a beast starting next year. Plus the defenseman Hattkka has played well. Initial judgements in sports are often wrong.

Chatter tonight is Fitz is now trying to get Saros from Nashville. Stay tuned.
Timo looked good last night. Had the legs moving and knocked Dumoulin out of the game with a big hit. His power move to the net set up Mercer's goal. Still hate that he's on his off-wing, but playing on the 3rd line may get him untracked after this supposed hard-restart by Ruff. He likely won't be playing against the top D pairings, so hopefully he can build some confidence. If they do make the playoffs, he'll have played a role in getting there.

It has been nice to see him, and other's like Bahl, pick up the physicality. Ruff loves to change up lines, so hopefully Timo will get his ice time. I also want him on his natural wing. As far as being on the 3rd line, after rethinking it, I believe the reasons are two fold. First Timo has his line to drive and gives us 3 dangerous lines. Second it keeps Timo away from Jack, Jasper, and Nico, as all 3 of those guys like to monopolize the puck. Timo's game is to have a shoot first mentality.

Timo reminds me a lot of Kreider, big and strong, not a good stick handler, not a good forechecker, good speed who benefits from his line mates who set him up.
All in, doesn’t make many plays and plays like he’s 170 instead of 230, but can clean up and finish.

Another good call. He has to get mad to use his size and strength. Another player whose best asset is his shot.

Kevin Weekes is reporting besides Markstrom, the Devils are interested in Merzlinkens. He didn't mention anything about Saros.

Time will tell, but Fitz have better NOT give up Holtz and a 1st Rounder for this Elvis.

It's not even the 16 back-to-backs, it's the fact many of them have involved distant travel, with our opponents being well rested. It would be easier to take if the majority of these were games in the major corridor, ex. Game 1 home- Game 2 at Rangers. Keep us from Washington D.C. to Boston no harm no foul, especially if our opponent had to travel similarly!

New system from Ruff is working! I love how tight the team is right now. Hoping the Devils prove me wrong and make the playoffs. We are only 2 points out of the WC, and it looks like we are peaking at the perfect time.

Give Timo time, Yegor is a good player, Timo can be a great player! Toffoli is the leading goal scorer for players in their 1st year after getting traded, then Yegor Sharangovich, hmmm a Fitz trade WIN!

Its not so much we're peaking at the right time, but we're getting healthy at right time.

I said earlier in January...our best trade deadline acquisitions this year will be Jack, Smith, Timo,..hopefully Seigenthaler. All getting healthy at the right time.

BTW only Nikita O. and Zetterlund started this year playing for the Sharks. The young D-man SM might have come up recently but is still a project. I still think it was a great trade for us.

Now whether we keep this going, or end up selling at the deadline, we are in a GREAT position long term. Now this team is not ripe yet, but we already have more than 5 highly selected high end players and we need to manage our budget for the future. This is why Fitz insisted on Calgary keeping money in the failed deal.

Right, I really should have used congealed. Oh well finally winning back-to-backs has me giddy tonight.
