Again, this site never disappoints.

Name a topic, any topic, and SPS will bring the 411.
Case has been ingrained in me since I was probably 10 (that whole dad's pocket knife thing)........ I have never looked twice at Boker....I will now. Thank you........

This is what I carry and it's the best knife I've owned to date.

The next time someone wants a suggestion for a Father’s Day , birthday, or Christmas present for you, request a personal folding steak knife. Shun makes an excellent one but it’s pricey. Kai makes an economical copy of the Shun. The CRKT CEO Flipper makes an excellent steak knife as well. There’s nothing better than cutting a good piece of meat with a sharp knife rather than sawing it with a serrated butter knife.

Like carrying around a steak knife in case an unanticipated steak becomes available? I'm writing this down.

Outdoor Edge 3” folding knife with replaceable blades. Not expensive, blades are practically razor blade sharp. I quit spending any significant amount of money on pocket knives as I lose them too often.

I have this one. Used it when hunting. Got tired of it, biggest headache was cleaning it after using. I also didn’t think the blades lasted long enough. Went back to a traditional fixed blade skinning knife. Probably would like the outdoor edge better if I wasn’t using it for dead animal related tasks.

There is one more EDC I used for a few days recently but I am still testing it. I was in Colorado and left my knife at the condo and we were headed out to some trails. We stopped at Walmart to get some supplies and I picked up a Kershaw Analyst for $30 bucks to have something. It came very sharp and has good reviews. 1000004837.png

Haven't used it long enough to give my own review. I generally carry automatics. This is a spring assist so it does open easy. Not sure on edge retention. But hey it's only $30.

Always carried a Spyderco of some type. These days, its a Paramilitary 2.
For all of you Benchmade fans, they are anti 2A. I won’t buy them because of that.

I did have an original MOD automatic that got lost during a move. I am still sick about it 12 years later. I still hold out hope that I find it in a box in the attic or a closet.

I'm a simple man. I usually have a Swiss Army Huntsman or Leatherman Wingman with me. A Cold Steel SRK lives in the work bag, for fun.

What kind of pocket knife is the Pack toting these days? I've been on Kershaw for several years, currently carrying a Scallion model. It's perfectly fine and typically I'm so bad to lose one that I haven't looked to upgrade. Are Benchmade's or similar brands really that much better/nicer?

It kinda surprises me that more people don't have one these days - I bet I use mine a half-dozen times a day. Just a plain ol Swiss Army knife on your keychain would be extremely useful. Probably at least partially related but also it's absolute bullshiit the number of places you can't bring a normal small pocket knife into anymore.

Just keep it cheap. You never know when you’ll need to go somewhere where security will not let you enter with a knife, just chunk it in that situation
Thankfully had a give away knife in pocket when going through gate for game 1 in Omaha in 21. Gate attendant got all pissy and was like “YOU CAN’T HAVE THAT IN HERE!!!” I was like you keep it as a souvenir from a State fan!

I carry a Kershaw that I found in Dads stuff and an Old Timer mini 3 that I started carrying several years ago.

One of these on the keychain, but it only has the blade, no file on it. Goes everywhere, thru multiple ER and courthouse scanners. Never been caught. Really just used for shipping packages, zip ties, and opening kids toys.

When something more is needed a 3 blade Uncle Henry or any of an assortment of misc locking blades picked up over the years.

In my 20+ years of experience gutting and skinning deer. I’ll never use another knife other than the outdoor edge razor pro.

Blade gets dull, slip on another, don’t want to hit the guts, use the zipper. It’s a hell of a knife.

I normally get 2-2.5 skins out of one blade. Great skinning knife.

ETA: I’m a terrible knife sharpener. This contributes to my opinion. Cleaning it isn’t really that big of a deal. Run it under some hot water and dry it off.

Keyshaw make a Benchmade quality line of knives. They are called Zero Tolerance I think. They’re a little on the heavy and bulky side to me.
I have a zero tolerance 0450 that was anodized a bluish purple. Really cool knife and carries very well, allowing me to get in my pocket easily without obstruction. The flip open mechanism is a little difficult and it carries too much metal towards the edge to get super sharp. Similar color to this one 1753021354230.png

I'm glad you brought up their anti 2A stance. I don't own them for the same reason. People should look that topic up.

You sound like someone who would hijack a plane with a 2 inch blade or a wine opener. Hmmmm....

SA Tinker & Buck 112 Drop Point. Tinker sees the more daily use, but the 112 blade can handle heavier jobs.

IMG_9362.jpegI’ve had one of these in my pocket most of the time since I got a mailer in my PO box at State in 1988. Lost the first one and replaced it with the one I carry now in about ‘99. I did NOT pay then what they want for it now.

Maybe sime one can explain…..why can I not carry a pocket knife to a basketball or football game but can and often do carry a butcher knife to the outfield in baseball. Always thought that was/is ironic or stupid.

How do you sharpen your knife. I remember my dad using a whetstone to sharpen his pocket knife. After years, the blade was very worn down.

I don’t carry a pocket knife. The main reason being I can’t use a whetstone to keep it sharp.

I have a larger knife that I keep in my truck, but sharpen it with an electric sharpener.

If you're a Left Field Lounger, you might not want to bring that technicality up.

Most times you'll have to ask TSA what I was carrying, so because of that, I try to keep it cheap. I have a carabiner "claw knife" from Amazon. Really not the best because it doesn't lock. But 99% of the time when I need one it's just to open a package or cut through something pretty simple like a zip tie and it does the job. Think I got like 3 for $10 and I'm only down one to TSA so far, so probably will stick with it when I donate the last of them.
I have a small swiss army knife that I got in Zurich 25 years ago and I love it and keep it on my keychain. I've had to run it back to my car 3 times at the airport because I forgot to take it off before going thru TSA. Luckily I had enough time...

I have Japanese water stones that I use to hand sharpen a slight convex edge. I have a shapton 1000, 1500 and Chosera 3000. The 1000 rarely gets used as it's more for reprofiling a damaged edge. The 1500 is for when my edge has been used hard (2 deer skinned and butchered), followed by the Chosera 3000, then ceramic rod, and ultimately, a two sided strop with white and green compound. Usually I maintain an edge with a strop and the Chosera 3000 Japanese water stone. Hair popping edge that lasts and stands up to abuse with good steel.

It’s easy enough to check online to see if a given place allows a pocket knife/has metal detectors. I can always walk my knife/pistol back out to the truck if I have to, or I can just choose to not enter that particular building. I’d never let a potential issue with security determine what brand or quality of blade/pistol I’m toting.

We apparently love our lives very differently and that has never been an option for me on any flight in my life I don’t think.

I have lot of pocket knives, etc., Leatherman's, etc., Bucks, . The only thing I keep on me is a very old pen knife with a 1.50 inch blade.
Tiny letter opener. Dang it, I can't walk in a Federal Court House with it on my key chain.
