OT: PSU hockey

Sparty is a wagon this year. Took all four games head to head (PSU gets a point for the OT loss in the outdoor game).
Sparty has been one of the best regular season teams the past several years. Usually come up small in the post season though. Maybe that changes this year.
I always liked those crossover games in other venues. You could not pay me enough to sit outside in the northeast this week. Just too cold.
I thought it was cool when NCAA hoops played on an aircraft carrier a couple years ago.

Sounds like 18 YO Gavin went drinking in the bars after the game and then broke someone's jaw.
Faces 20 years but would be shocked if he didn’t plea bargain down to a misdemeanor. Guy he hit is apparently VERY messed up so we’ll see. He’ll also have to settle his tort of course.
Gavin wasn’t drinking and is only 18 but the “recipient” was supposedly very drunk.
I believe you're thinking of Edmonton vs. Montreal in 2003. That was the first "Heritage Classic," of which the 8th iteration will take place next season. Pittsburgh and Buffalo was the first "Winter Classic," but there was also an outdoor preseason game between the Rangers and Kings in Las Vegas in 1991 as well as a couple outdoor exhibition games in the 50s.
Personally for me, the outdoor games are played out. I remember thinking the 2003 Heritage Classic was awesome, and then again the first Winter Classic in 2008, but once they made it an annual event I thought it had lost its novelty, and then they really wore it out when they introduced the Stadium Series on top of the Winter Classic and Heritage Classic in 2013-14 when they had a total of six outdoor games in a span of two months. I also don't get the appeal of going to these games. You freeze your *** off and spend a fortune to watch a regular season game with terrible sightlines because it's in a stadium that wasn't designed for watching hockey.
I felt like you that it would just be pled down to the misdemeanor simple assault, and he would get penalties that do not involve jail time.
however, I read an immigration lawyers explanation that what counts is that misdemeanor assault could result in a jail sentence of up to a year, and even if that isn’t his sentence that brings things to a level that will complicate his easy movement across the US Canada border.
So, he needs to not get hit with either of the assault charges, which given the victim’s injuries and the idea the two punches were caught on a security camera, would be controversial.
You are correct on the 1st Heritage Classic teams. My memory is going in my old age. If they kept these to once per year, it's fine. I have never attended one but see the draw back to the "old" days of playing outdoor hockey. We did a lot of that in my younger years (ponds, lakes, rivers and flooded backyard).
I’m not krup, but I do have an opinion. 100% done with Drury and have been for a long time, but I’m not sure how much I can blame him for the Panarin return. Word is Panarin would only play nice in the sandbox with his NMC for a trade to Florida (never was gonna happen) or LAK. So Drury was negotiating from a position of weakness to start with. Had to get something rather than run the risk of getting no return at all.
I like the idea of one a year, actually on NYD and in a football venue.
- No warm weather sites
- No baseball stadiums
- No extra games
To be done with Drury would imply that I ever thought much of him. I couldn’t fathom how he possibly was promoted and given total control when Gorton and JD were fired, as Drury was in personally in charge of the Hartford team at a time it turned into a big mess.
I don’t blame Drury for not getting much when he had no leverage due to Panarin’s NMC, but then one should ask why the Rangers had to give up the #12 pick when the shoe was in the other foot last year in the JT Miller trade.
That story just seems tooo convienient. I have no doubt that the other party was an instigator but I do think this version of the story is a stretch. I have a feeeling that it was woven to protect his NHL future.

Felony charge has now been dropped. Story should be subtitled, “Typical Canadian dude meets typical Delco dude.”
