We are heading up for the Fed-ex classic in June and we've decided to play Cherokee on Friday afternoon. I've passed by it a thousand times but never played it, is it a decent course? We've played Kirkwood in Holy Springs a couple of times but we want to try a different course.

Cherokee Valley is pretty nice. Wedgewood is a bit hokey but nice. Plantation is nice.<div>
</div><div>Honestly, if you dont mind the drive, Mallard Pointe in Sardis is my favorite in the area and definitely the hardest course in the area.</div>

It's got some great holes. A couple of the par 5's are challenging and you can attack them several different ways. Probably the best course in the county.

zoysia fairways and not terribly long at all. It iseasier and more forgiving than Kirkwood.

Both, Cherokee and Plantation, are very easy and not very long. Fairways are usually in good shape and so are the greens. The ball sits up nicely on the zoysia fairways. The courses in Tunica are better but that may be a little farther than you want to drive.

maintenance schedule. this time of year many are punching greens and you should at least know it before you show up. most won't tell you unless you ask.

and fairly new. I think it's been around about 15 years or so.

I'm far from being a scratch golfer and I only get to play 8-10 times a year these days, but even I can shoot pretty well at Cherokee. It has a nice combination of character and layout without ever adding a great deal of difficulty.

If you're looking for a challenge, I'd definitely look elsewhere but if you're just looking for an enjoyable round, I think you'll like it.

Last time I played, I holed a 3-iron from about 230 out and won some money, so I have fond memories of that place.<div>
</div><div>And just so it doesn't sound like I posted this to brag -- the only reason I was 230 out was my drive was so ******.</div>
