and you can bet if that 17er gets elected you will see the biggest white flight ever. Also, might not be a bad idea to get your real estate license.

My faith in humanity is already at an all time low. If Chokwe is elected it will be ruined forever.

The guy is touting as one of his qualifications for being mayor, the fact that he represented the late Tupac Shakur. The sad thing is that it will probably get him more votes.

Wings to Go really needs to improve their service if they are going to make it.

I deal with the supervisors regularly. The politics that have gone on over the last several decades is horrible. Karl and Paul actually aren't as bad as you realize. Karl gets some stuff accomplished. You would actually be surprised at the good things that have happened that Karl was responsible for. Hamer was an idiot, D.I. was a bureaucrat, and don't even get me started on Elvis.

It will be interesting to see if Espy gives good legal advice, or just tells them what they want to here. You would be shocked to see some of the legal advice Hamer gave them (such as the New Castle fiasco). I would have fired him a long time ago. Hamer was an arrogant prick also.

damage, glad he is gone. I hear this is what he told the supervisors on just about everything they sought his counsel on. No wonder they<div>created the cluster17 with sq footage on housing and what not.</div>

Unfortunately I left before it happened. They didn't put it on the agenda, so nobody knew it was coming. Ronny, Gerald, and John Bell have been bitching about how everything must be on the agenda by the Monday before the next Monday's meeting so that it will be in the packet to be mailed out. Then they slip this in. I assume Hamer knew it was coming.

He seems to be a free thinking outside the box type politician who isn't afraid to buck the system to make things better. Being away from Jackson for a couple years now, I'm sure this is a dumb question, but if you had to boil it all down what is the biggest concern with him? Jackson has been in financial trouble for a long time and I didn't see it getting any better. Now might be a time to make a change?

Why are they so afraid of this man?

I don't live in Jackson. Never have and probably never will, but what has you all so concerned?

I bet you didn't know Lincoln was a white supremacist. Let chokwe set you right, cracka ***. Every single problem in the black community is the result of the cracka.

This reparations demanding asshat's agenda would make Ray Nagin say, "DAMN, brah!"

I'm watching some vids on Youtube right now and I haven't seen him say anything against white people yet. I see a lot of titles that I think will lead to inflammatory evidence, but so far he seems to be a supporter of change for minorities, particuarly with the black minorites. Considering that Jackson is predominantly people that he speaks to and for, it may not be a bad idea for someone like him to be elected. Giving the downtrodden hope and vision is the best way to encourage self sufficiency.

He really isn't the most articulate speaker from what I have seen, and not really all that charismatic, but I guess he has the drive and background to get people to listen. He seems to be vague and speaks in generalities.
There is a younger guy that speaks in a few of his videos that is one of his supporters who is fairly interesting.

And he was a success as mayor.1

Seriously, I know more than one progressive, pro-Jackson, St. Andrew's-type Democrat who have said they would move from Jackson if Lumumba is mayor.

I thought Frank Melton was a pretty good mayor for Jackson. He was kicking in doors and burning down crackhouses trying to get things cleaned up. He did it outside the constraints of the law, but he got it done. He was pretty conservative for a democrat and encouraged self sufficiency.
Lumumba seems to be more liberal than Frank Melton for sure.

I was just wondering why all the backlash. I did a little research to see if anything horrible stood out, asked you guys about it and still don't really understand what all the dislike is about.

If I was mayor, my first order of business would be to make the lakes project a reality.

This is one of the groups he has been heavily involved with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_New_Afrika

Here is another. This is this group's "Southern strategy." http://mxgm.org/grassroots-thinking-the-new-southern-strategy/ This is their group pledge. http://mxgm.org/about/the-mxgm-pledge/ Any yet another http://mxgm.org/about/why-we-say-new-afrikan/

Lumumba used to hashtag his tweets #FreetheLand. "Free the Land" means establish a sovereign, socialist African-American nation in the Southeast. Both of the aforementioned groups are also anti-Semetic.

I was in your boat when people first began mentioning Lumumba deciding to run for mayor, but it didn't take very long to realize he is a race-baiting black nationalist.

Jackson hasn't had a good mayor in a decade, and as crazy as a Chokwe ran government might be, it won't affect much of my daily life as a citizen of Jxn. As frustrating as they might be, the city council still votes on issues, i.e. the mayor cannot do a lot of unilateral stuff.

I've heard him call for the US to give the states Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and parts of Florida to the Republic of New Africa.

Chokwe told a friend of mine that he dislikes all Causasians. His actual language was a bit stronger.

If this would be your first order of business. He has said on record that he doesn't think downtown is where the Jackson needs to spending money. He wants to pump money into South and West Jackson. Downtown Jackson is doomed if he gets elected.

Of course when one your candidates for mayor associates Hugo Chavez and Castro with freedom and sound economics, more than downtown will be doomed if he gets elected.

I'm originally from Madison but married the Prep/ole miss NEJxner....I told my wife if ol chuckle is elected, she is either with me or against me when I move.....as someone stated on THIS board several months ago, chuckie lost me in a speech when talking about mayor when he sAid he was tired of suburbians using Jackson as a place to work, and touted "economic justice" for the city of Jackson when he becomes elected.....I say, chuckie, do your homework and see how well that worked out for the city in the late 60s and 70s....downtown jxn suffered when they drove out all the private business out....how many tax dollars are they bringing in with all those government buildings downtown? I'll let you guess on that one....

On top of that, chuckie is the David Duke of black people.....

If he is elected, you WILL see the death of all the progression Jax has made in the last 10 years.....you will also see white flight part II....

Bad bad bad deal if that communist-racist gets elected.....mark my word....

My wife can forget her kitchen remodel if that dude gets elected.....i won't invest another penny in this ******** of a city....

Wow, 15 years ago he actually was somewhat articulate and charismatic. His recent videos show a much less passionate leader.

Looking at this, I can see where it would be difficult to understand what he supports. The biggest issue that I can see is that he seems dismissive of white people which naturally puts them on the defensive. He doesn't seem to include them in his plan of people to help. At least most politicians of his type will include the "Poor" which would at least encompass a portion of every culture.

I saw one video in which he gives credit to a lawyer named George Washington who happens to be white.

It is interesting that the CL has no current interviews of him? Didn't he announce his intentions like 2 months ago?

Yeah, that is bizarre. I swear that when he started to talk about that in that video from 1998, someone was telling him in the background to "watch it". It comes through loud and clear. That may be one to bite him in the *** down the road.

due to poor and incompetent leadership. When the City Council became the defacto leaders and the Armstrong, Stokes, Kirksey, Bluntson, et al group ran the show, you could see what was going to happen from a mile away. I grew up there, but it is not a place I want to visit or go do business. It's sad what it has become, but the denizens are hell bent for leather to take it straight to the bottom and anyone who is able should seriously look at leaving. The fact that he is a serious candidate should tell you all you need to know.
