I know there are some tv lovers here. I like a good drama. And there are plenty out there that I've not had time/initiative to get into yet. So if I throw out a few can you rank them on the "Must Watch" scale? Or if it's easier to place them in different tiers. Dunno. I'm just don't want to waste time on a show if there are some better out there. I've seen some of these a little, but most I have not.<div>
</div><div>
 • Sons of Anarchy
 • Breaking Bad
 • Mad Men
 • The Walking Dead
 • Homeland
 • Boss
 • Band of Brothers
 • Dexter
 • Game of Thrones
 • Deadwood
 • Friday Night Lights
 • The Shield
<div>Are there three are four you'd say are on the MUST WATCH list?</div></div>

I'm only going to rank the ones I have watched, obviously. I'm also not going to rank Band of Brothers against these shows because it is something different. As an American it is an absolute must see, but I don't think it is fair to compare it to these fiction based shows.<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div><div>
</div><div>1. Mad Men</div><div>2. Breaking Bad</div><div>3. Homeland - Excellent, but a bit preachy.</div><div>4. Deadwood</div><div>5. Dexter</div><div>6. Boss - Could be really good, but we are only one season in. Some of the plot lines are far-fetched even for a television show about Chicago politics.</div><div>7. Game of Thrones - A lot of people like this one much more than I do. It's a good show, but a little too sci-fi for my taste.</div><div>8. The Walking Dead - Another one that many people like more than I do. Again, a little too sci-fi. The zombies are really slow and easy to kill. I just really don't get it.</div><div>
</div><div>The one I would rank first that wasn't on your list is The Wire. It is probably the best show ever. I haven't watched The Shield, FNL, or Sons of Anarchy.</div><div>

Game of thrones, dexter, and homeland are all great, fresh shows. Try spartacus, 1st 3 or 4 seasons of NYPD blue, the shield, and battlestar galactica too. I just thought of the series Rome too.. it was good as well.

</div><div>There were some other good suggestions offered from others as well. I'll see which of these I can find on Netflix or Amazon Instant Video.</div>

Justified (FX). Best show on TV. <div>
</div><div>Spartacus deserves some serious consideration.</div><div>
</div><div>The rest can go on your Netflix list. The League is an amazing sitcom and I would have to include House of Lies with Don Cheadle on SHO in there as well. </div><div>
</div><div>I agree Band of Brothers doesn't fit and is a must see, as well as Rome. Camelot had promise but the guy they pegged as Arthur looked like a ***** and it got canned. As for premium shows, The Tudors should be on there as well. For Mini-series not already mentioned, I would include John Adams and Pillars of the Earth. I assume you ask b/c you are looking to build up a Netflix wish list.</div>

Dexter is the most intense show on the list. <div>
</div><div>The following are in the same "tier" as Dexter and really unrankable - this would be Tier 2 behind BOB, which has its own tier: Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, Spartacus (although Andy Whitfield was much better than the new Spartacus), and Breaking Bad. </div>

1. The Wire
2. Breaking Bad
3. Game of Thrones
4. Mad Men
5. Band of Brothers
6. Boardwalk Empire
7. Treme
8. Curb Your Enthusiasm

I have not seen Treme or Curb Your Enthusiasm listed in any of the above recommendations. Treme is a post Katrina look at New Orleans. It started slow, but with time, I began to enjoy it. Treme has some great character development, and the soundtrack is awesome too. If you are a fan of Larry David, then you will like Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Awake - Dude doesn't know if he is awake or asleep. (Wife alive ? or Son alive?) Had a bad wreck. One died, and the show is going to be about what part he is dreaming about. Hope it turns out good. NBC.

Alcatraz - The old prisoners somehow time travel from 1963 to present day. Sam Neill (Old Damien from Omen) and Hurley from LOST. On Fox.

Band of Brothers is all time best.

I always forget about John Adams when talking about TV shows. It follows along with the biography by David McCullough very well. If you enjoy history, it is very good.

As far as currently running dramas go, of the ones I've seen, I'd rank:
 • The Walking Dead (If season 3 progresses the way I expect, don't be surprised if this tops more lists)
 • Game of Thrones (read the books if you get the chance. Best series I've ever read.)
 • Breaking Bad (Best acting on TV)
 • Boardwalk Empire (Never thought I'd watching anything starring Steve Buscemi. Bold writing.)
 • Mad Men (Last season was a bit dull.)
 • Dexter (Been in a slight decline the past few seasons, but they hit a huge plot point to end the last season.)
I love all of them, too.

Sons of Anarchy
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
The Walking Dead
Homeland
Boss
Band of Brothers
Dexter
Game of Thrones
Deadwood
Friday Night Lights
The Shield
unfortunately, this list shows how woefully under-utilized my television is, for i have never seen any of these shows but recognize (some of) them. at night, it stays on a sports channel or Tosh.O. during the day my wife catches up on her shows (none of these), and my kids fill in the gaps between that...</p>

Granted, i've not seen some of these. But the first season of GOT was so good that i read the books....and it completely rocked my ****. Not just because it's good, but because it's on a whole other level (and i've ready and/or watched a ton of stuff), where there is so much stuff that's subtle and foreshadows things waaaayyyy down the line (unlike most TV where plots are only planned out a few episodes down), that the rewatch/reread value is astronomical. For example, i loved Lost, but i would never sit and watch an old episode except for maybe the finale, because what's the point? But i feel the exact opposite about GOT, and it's already become the first TV series that i've purchased on DVD/Blu-Ray.\

best comparison i can think of: The Sopranos (drama and violence and death to major characters, but to a much greater degree) + The Lord of the Rings (medieval setting, but with less fantasy focus) + Band of Brothers (production value and intangibles).

That is the only reason I can see it not being at the top of every list.

I would say breaking bad and game of thrones after that. I don't include band of brothers in the list because I see it as a mini-series as opposed to a show with ongoing seasons, but it is a must watch. I would put it above any of the others in your list just due to the fact it is shorter in overall watch time than most of your other options.

Kill Ned Stark? Really? The most interesting character on the show by far now is the dwarf. And he's only in one or two scenes per episode.

The April 1 show better be good or I'll be moving on.

since you do have some shows that are no longer on, I thought you should include these two:

Sopranos - one of the greatest ever

OZ - still have nightmares about that one.....

He'll be the main focus for this season. He'll basically be the Tony Soprano of this season. I won't comment beyond that, but if you liked season 1, it's only going to get way better for you.

But yeah, one of the biggest problems for this series will be the ever-expanding cast (even after all the deaths), and if a wide audience can keep up with it.

The beginning of the series starts with the Boston Massacre (1770). He is in the house with his kids and the report of the massacre comes in. John Quincy should be about 3 years old at this time, but he is way older and I believe Charles is in the room also as a young boy, but he was born in 1770. I noticed that right off the bat and there were many other inconsistencies throughout.

I loved the show, but it is not historically correct.

Link to IMDB covering the inaccuracies

The Game of Throne books are amazing. There are a lot of great characters. I am anxious to see Season 2, but I don't see how HBO can do the books justice. They did pretty well with book one, so there is some hope. ...and yes, don't get too emotionally tied to anyone in the show. Just watch it and enjoy what happens next.

Deadwood is #1 on my list. Game of Thrones, Justified, Rome, and Boss are close behind.

</div><div>nothing against tWD or dexter, but they are significantly behind the top 4 series imo. the writing just doesn't hold up. it's been a long while since i watched BoBs, but would like to revisit it. it is a mini-series though, not a show with multiple seasons.

i mean, dexter has had its moments, but it's gotten pretty predictable which has really let the weak writing show. there is nothing on tv that has ever been as intense as sunset -> one minute and half measures -> full measures from season 3 of breaking bad.

Ok, that's big talk... but I've never seeen a show I was more addicted too and couldn't get enough of.
