These are the happiest states in America. See where your state ranks
A new report from WalletHub has ranked all 50 states for happiness. Here's who came out on top.

We have it all. We have beautiful beaches, some with boardwalks and attractions. We still have lots of open space and place to hike, horseback ride and mountain bike. We have the Pine Barrens, a natural wonder. We have proximity to two of the largest cities with endless entertainment and cultural options. We have an outstanding selection of restaurants and food. Every place has problems and things to complain about. NJ people are vocal, and some consider that a plus. Are we complaining or observing? Having lived in several other states, we always came back to NJ. There are may reasons for that. As I put it when younger-because all the other places we lived just plain sucked.I saw that.
My first thought was "I never imagined a state where so many people moan and groan about nearly anything were happy in their misery".
A Jersey thing?
As long as you don't live ANYWHERE near the cities, crime and riffraff it's great!!

You saw my answer, we like it here. We are not guilty and guilty on your scenario with two kids going in different directions for college. How many of the whiners on this board- who will all tell you how rich they are BTW- have left?
Oh right, they send Biff to University of Tampa, but then some weird family thing happens and they all end up living in NJ until happily ever after. BUT for that they totally would have left!
Also, it's outrageous how much taxes are in NJ and that you have to pay for the beach but we're going to celebrating Olivia graduating from Coastal Carolina with her degree in underwater basketweaving for which we paid full freight and need tips on the best snorkeling in the Maldives. Oh and we can't afford RU concession prices!
Considering the people you continually elect to office, that is an unrealizable pipe dream…buttons nice to have dreams even of unreachableI think NJ would be pretty close to perfect if the property taxes and income taxes were half of what they are.
You mentioned how self loathing NJ people are in the other college thread and I laughed. Maybe it’s a rural/suburban thing because I didn’t see that in my part of NJ. This #2 ranking doesn’t surprise me at all.How many of the whiners on this board- who will all tell you how rich they are BTW- have left?

Go walk around there or Trenton at night let me know how u make out. C’mon manNJ has among the least crime in the country. Even places like Camden are much safer than they once were.

IMO, one thing (taxes) has nothing to do with the other (where parents/kids choose to go to college and the cost) especially considering how the NJ Budget does not allocate a lot to support the State Universities.

Also, message boards are made for complaining, they’re a terrible place to measure how the general public feel about things.

I agree - there is no reason to post threads that aren't complaints (unrelated to FB)You mentioned how self loathing NJ people are in the other college thread and I laughed. Maybe it’s a rural/suburban thing because I didn’t see that in my part of NJ. This #2 ranking doesn’t surprise me at all.

And the insurance costs, utility costs, oh and the traffic.I think NJ would be pretty close to perfect if the property taxes and income taxes were half of what they are.
"A cul de sac is a fancy name for a dead end street"Would rather that than much of Memphis or NOLA many other cities at night.
Not to mention, most NJ cities and the state as a whole are among the safest in the entire country.
If you're scared in NJ you can't get out of your cul de sac often.
Another clown take from you. I grew up in Trenton, spent over 30 years there. I can admit it’s a $hithole. You should too.Would rather that than much of Memphis or NOLA many other cities at night.

I worked off of Perry Street in the 1980s. Back then it was scary. I have not reason to return and relive the old days, because I want to live in my old days.Another clown take from you. I grew up in Trenton, spent over 30 years there. I can admit it’s a $hithole. You should too.
Judging by your responses I can tell you don’t have a clue what you are talking about.
Nah, it's just one person (actually two) stirring the pot as usual. This thread has become an exemplary reminder of that infectious happiness for which the Garden State is now known![]()
You should spend some time in Hunterdon county. Most people would not agree thereI think most people would agree NJ (and the tri state area) is full of self loathers. Maybe in SJ it's less.
Definitely less in South Jersey. Down there people pretty much accept who they are which are basically blue collar folks or rich Philadelphians who crossed the bridge to raise their kids in places like Haddonfield or Cherry Hill or Mount Laurel. Feel like the self loathing NJ folks are focused primarily in the North Jersey suburbs outside of NYC.I think most people would agree NJ (and the tri state area) is full of self loathers. Well said. I've traveled a lot and lived for months at a time in several places and while I enjoyed all of those places, I can't imagine living anywhere other than NJ for all the reasons you stated (and including Rutgers/NB, of course). We used to have these one-page Powerpoint slides for our department at work, which served as an intro for others to see and mine had a line in it saying, "Born in Jersey, Will Die in Jersey," lol.We have it all. We have beautiful beaches, some with boardwalks and attractions. We still have lots of open space and place to hike, horseback ride and mountain bike. We have the Pine Barrens, a natural wonder. My buddy was a Trenton cop in the early 70's & Perry Street was one of the streets that the cops did not stop the patrol cars, at red lights after dark, very sketchy!!!I worked off of Perry Street in the 1980s. Back then it was scary. I have not reason to return and relive the old days, because I want to live in my old days.

WTF are you talking about? When did I compare Trenton to Nola? Man you are stupid.Chance of being a victim of violent crime in Trenton is 1 in 96
In NOLA it's 1 in 79
Do you want to keep going or are you embarrassed enough yet?
WTF are you talking about? When did I compare Trenton to Nola? Man you are stupid.
They are both $hitholes
I really dont care tbh. That is not what I was saying. You tried defending Trenton and Camden and sounded like a fool.So which states have less crime? Name them.

I live in Central Jersey and like it here. There are things in the state I would change but I still like it here for the most part.
WTF are u talking about? Lied about what? I said Trenton and Camden are shitholes. The are. You need to stay off the drugs.Well thanks for conceding you lied. It's always a pleasure to shut down a sheep. You made a claim about crime, provided no proof, and demonstrated you have nothing but sad talking points.
Maybe stick to the CEsspool where your fact free assertions are welcomed?
Reminds me of how I think NJ should greet visitors - "Welcome to New Jersey... now get the F*&%^ out!! "NJ is full of happiness, and if you think otherwise, you can f*** off![]()
