I'm trying to find a truck that I can haul a boat with. The boat is a few hundred miles away, and I don't have a vehicle that can tow it. I called the rental car place, but their trucks don't come with hitch options or towing packages. Any suggestions?

I just need to get it and take it from point A to point B in one day. Anywhere I can rent a truck for this purpose?

Just out of curiosity, are you purchasing a boat you don't have a means of hauling?

What kind of boat and how big/heavy?

19 foot ski boat.

not sure how heavy. I have a SUV that I would feel ok using around town, but I would rather not put that much strain on it for over 150 miles, so I wanted to rent something more suited for towing.

19 ft. ski boat behind a SUV for 150 miles should be no problem.

I pulled a 24ft. boat from Guntersville, AL to Tupleo with a Cutlass Ceirra Co. car. It pulled fine but stopping was a challenge. Wouldn't do it again but seemed like a good idea when I hooked it up.

Unless it's something like a Jeep Compass, you should be fine. Ski boats generally aren't that heavy. The wind pushing you around will probably be a bigger problem than the strain on your engine. Just take it easy and you should be fine unless you're pulling it 150 miles through some pretty significant elevation changes..

Damn, your a better friend than the ones I've got. I couldn't tell you how many times friends have bummed my truck from me for moving, bringing home a new refrig. from Best Buy, pulling 4 wheelers, etc., they bum all the time. Saw a bumper sticker on Lakeland recently that said, "NO you can't use my truck to move", I want one.

A u-haul would certainly do the job. Rent it Sunday-Thursday and you'll save yourself $.30/mile. You're looking at $29.95+ $.69/mile (round trip) for a 14' or 17' truck. If you're in a market that has the pickups that would save you a bundle- With the LCR rates you could go your 300 miles for about $130. That's $78.95 for the day including 100 miles, and $.25 each additional mile.

ETA: If you are renting a pickup, the Sunday-Thursday tip does not apply.
