just read the Snake passed away. The hall of famer was the original gun slinger and his team's were some of the best ever. Will be missed by this fan and I don't even like the raiders, major respect for him though.

Ghost to the Post. RIP to a Raiders legend. Sad that you have to be ridiculously old (like me) to remember when the Raiders were great.

The 1974 playoff game when the raiders dethroned the dolphins was one of the 5 best athletic contests Ive ever seen.

Always thought growing up he was such a cool guy because he did things his way.

Being a steelers fan it was hard to root for him. But he made it easy because he just wanted to win. He loved his teammates. Wish his family the best during this time

Sad to hear this, I always liked him, seemed like a good natured person and wasn't the personality of the Raiders back in the day, he let others build that up. One things for sure, he's one of the greatest to ever play QB in the NFL, I'd put him in my top 5 any day.

I've been a Raiders fan for as long as I can remember. When I started to watch football in the early 70 ' I quickly attached myself to the team. When I was a kid everyone either liked the Steelers or the Cowboys. I chose the Raiders. I loved AL Davis, John Madden and George Blanda. Watching my Raiders on MNF with Cossell, Meredith was always a treat. The holy roller. Ghost to the post. Stickum. They call me assassin. And Kenny "The Snake" Stabler. Fred Biletnikoff. Cliff Branch. Ted Hendricks. Ray Freakin' Guy. Gene Upshaw. Art Shell. Dave Casper.

RIP Kenny
Boxes is sad.

Always liked the guy and he was a super talent. His beer gut was earned as he would drink a six pack before the games.

Wow, too bad, hope he is in a better place. Did he play with Mike Riley at Alabama?

Some of my first pro football memories were of The Snake and those Raiders teams. Plain and simple that was a group of bad asses!!

Nope...and I only know because I checked to see when he was at Bama myself. Was a Freshman when Broadway Joe was at Bama but graduated in 67. Riley was there in the early 70s.

No question Kenny Stabler was one of the finest quarterbacks of his day. With the exception of maybe Montana, nobody could bring a team back from behind like Stabler, and nobody could find more creative ways to move the ball down field like Stabler. He wasn't called the Snake for nothing. A few games that stick out in my mind are the Holy Roller and Ghost to the Post, but also the opening game of 1976 when the Raiders were down 14 - 28 to the Steelers with about 5 minutes left to play and Stabler brings Raiders back to win 31 - 28, and also the 1979 game with New Orleans in the Super Dome when Saints had the Raiders down 14 - 35 in the 3rd quarter and Stabler brings Oakland back to win 42 - 35 on Monday night. Great memories all.
