This thread is hilarious. 90% of Americans support background checks, because they're obviously a good idea. But some people want to cling to the fantasy that Democrats/most Republicans are evil communists who will use "background checks" to commit mass genocide on gun owners. No joke, a Congressman actually said this exact thing today.

..conclude that some pointless vote to end a filibuster automatically transforms Roger Wicker into Abbie Hoffman. Roger Wicker doesn't have the balls to buck the desires of the NRA. When/if the time arrives to vote on the senate's watered-down gun control bill, Wicker will vote as Wayne LaPierre instructs him to vote.

Good luck to y'all gun owners "protecting yourselves against tyranny in government". Something tells me that if the US government decides it wants to take you out, it is powerful enough to do so, regardless of how many guns you have in your house.

The complacency/stupidity of the majority of the people in this country is what is really scary. This country has way bigger problems than gun violence. Nonetheless, the liberals and apparently some not so liberal folks want to spend countless hours trying to erode our constitutional rights by pushing laws that will not stop or even slow down a single criminal. Crazy killers are going to kill people, unless there is someone around with a gun to stop them. I haven't heard anyone wanting more knife control since that nut cut up all those people in Texas.
Particularly the general paranoia that exists in the state of Mississippi. If leaders of 49 states think something about an issue is good, you can count on the leaders of the state of Mississippi will think it's a bad idea...bank it. BTW I'm a native Mississippian.
