On March 6, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

TLDR;
  1. What is it?
    • The Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is designed to serve as a "digital Fort Knox" for bitcoin, often referred to as "digital gold" due to its fixed supply of 21 million coins and its security.
  2. Where does the bitcoin come from?
    • The reserve will be capitalized with bitcoin that the U.S. government has acquired through criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings.
  3. Will bitcoin be sold?
    • The government will not sell the bitcoin deposited into this reserve; instead, it will be maintained as a store of value to bolster the nation's strategic financial position.
  4. Will more bitcoin be acquired?
    • To enhance the reserve, the Secretaries of the Treasury and Commerce are authorized to develop strategies for acquiring additional bitcoin, provided these strategies are budget-neutral and do not impose additional costs on taxpayers.
  5. Is it bitcoin-only?
    • In addition to the bitcoin reserve, the executive order establishes the United States Digital Asset Stockpile, which will consist of digital assets other than bitcoin (shitcoins) that have been forfeited to the government.
  6. Can the shitcoins be sold?
    • The Secretary of the Treasury is tasked with determining strategies for the responsible stewardship of this stockpile, which may include potential sales of these assets.

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like asset forfeiture. I don't like shitcoins. I like that the bitcoin reserve is separate from the shitcoin reserve. I like that the bitcoin is to be HODLed, while the shitcoins can be sold.

This is all via an executive order, so not only can the next president undo all of this, but the current administration may not execute it as currently understood.

Thoughts?

I find that charmin strong can create a sluggish flush at times, especially if there has been a fibrous intake preceding.

I thought the new wavy, perforated tear pattern was supposed to solve all flushing problems and give the operator an upper hand against fiber and Taco Bell.

Government controlled btc reserves. Will be fun watching the bros convince themselves that's, in fact, a good thing for crypto.

What makes it a good investment is the fact it is not regulated. Yeah, you can lose your butt, but you can get rich. Higher the risk, bigger the rewards. I think this is the first step to regulating it. 13 years ago, when I was laughing at it, I should have been buying it.

Yep. Turned out to be a massive wealth generating speculative investment. I wish I had a position to cash out. But ultimately governments, with their power and weapons, will find a way to take/control the value there.

Land, real estate, gold, oil, etc., are protected and defended by the military and the rule of law.

Bitcoin is protected and defended with electricity and code, not power and weapons.

I prefer bacon bits over coin bits. Even those prefab , artificial bacon bits are better than the coin bits

I haven't been correct? I first bought in 2016 (~$600), allocated 80%+ in 2019 (~$7k), never stopped buying, and never sold. I've been wrong about a lot if things in my life. Bitcoin is not one of them.

How is your "block chain tech" investment doing?

If you're looking for people who have "not been correct," the above thread from 2022 has plenty (price $17k).

Good luck seizing assets when you fire many employees and alienate the remaining.
