My doc put me on Trazadone. I would take 2, to little effect. I tried 4,and tye next morning, my equilibrium was SCREWED for hours. Turns out 3 was just right.

It's mentioned in Attia's Outlive book.

Especially in the summer, I have real trouble staying asleep. I use sleep aids when I'm way behind, but I quit seeing it as a curse and started making the most of the extra time in the morning. Usual wake-up time is between 230-330am.
That’s wild. I’ve tried as little as a half and I’m still crazy groggy the next morning.

Delta 9 works, but don't want to take it every night, plus I've built up a tolerance....
Have you been evaluated for apnea. I didn’t believe I had it for the longest. Then finally went for the study when my heart was going wild all day. Hated the machine, and now it’s like Linus’s blanket.

I have mild sleep apnea. Have a cpap. Still just as tired as before. The only thing it helped is I started dreaming again.

My momma would tell you that you’ve got a guilty conscience and that’s why you can’t sleep. You just need to get your heart right.

Do any of you remember the show “ How It’s Made” on the History Channel or something? That guys monotone voice would put a crack addict to sleep. I don’t think I ever made it through a thirty minute show.

Do you wear a watch that tracks and analyzes your sleep? My Garmin has given me a lot of additional information that has been very useful. I normally don’t get enough sleep or very high quality sleep, but I don’t have trouble going to sleep. The 4am alarm to go running for an hour or longer goes off usually 5 days a week. I am itching to be in bed by 9pm on those days.
I wear an apple watch, my breathing is all good, but i wake up a dozen or more times per night for very short periods. I don't remember waking except for the 3 or so bathroom trips. I get very little deep sleep.

Damn that sucks. I’m up twice for the bathroom most nights as well. 80% of my sleep is considered light. I get very little REM or deep sleep. But it sounds like I’m getting more sleep than you.

Xanax. I don’t take it but when I have I need to go to bed within 30 minutes.
Xanax is so good and so hard to get.
Im currently using my chemistry experience to create a proprietary blend of calcium, magnesium, coconut powder, L-Tryptophan, Ashwagandha root, GABA, chamomile, & melatonin, along with Xyzal. Best sleep I've had in years! And seriously, a good wanking doesn't hurt!

Really didn’t even have to be that hard a workout for me. Moderate helps me sleep much better. But not if it’s too late. If I have a 7:30 tennis match I’m going to sleep like sh*t no matter what I do. But mid afternoon to early evening, usually sleep good.
Similar. If I’m active late I have to unwind for a while before going to bed. If it’s summer I have to sit for a least 30 minutes to stop sweating!

Folks, I appreciate it, but when I say I've tried everything non prescription, I mean it. I lift heavy 3 x 4s a week for 90 minutes each. I walk 2 miles with a 35 lb vest. I'm not under stress, nor do I have a family issues, don't have sleep apnea either. I'm in excellent health with a clean diet. 6ft 2in, 200 lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal.
9PM box of donuts maybe? Do you not fall asleep or not stay asleep?

Sorry it this has been a recent topic (I searched and didn't find anything). What are my fellow non sleepers taking to get to and stay asleep? I've tried everything OTC/natural and nothing works. I've tried all the sleep hack/rituals also, none work for me.

The only two things that work for me are Delta 9 and Benadryl, but would rather not take either every night.

I've tried Doxepin, but no luck, what other prescription meds should I try? I understand Ambient has a lot of side effects, what are some meds that work, but have less side effects?
Get more exercise and get on and stay on a regular pattern of going to bed and getting up.

I had the sleep conversation with my Dr and he said everyone is different. Some people don't require much sleep while others do. The 8 hour rule is horse crap, so don't hold yourself to it.

That’s a very dangerous drug. It can 17 you up bad.
Low dosing and regular physician check ups with it isn't. I know several people that low dose it daily for anxiety without a problem.

The only time I've ever had trouble going to sleep was when I had a high stress job. I couldn't go to sleep w/out going through the whole day. I'd sleep awhile then wake up and couldn't go back because I was already stressing about what hadn't happened yet in the new day. Rinse, repeat every night for a few years, it was terrible. It's the most money I've ever made and that was 30 years ago but it just wasn't worth it.

It's not a problem.... until it becomes a problem. And a lot of these doctors are nothing more than pill pushers.

I think anxiety about sleep is overlooked. That was a big problem for me- ruminating on why I wasn’t sleeping and what would happen if I continued not getting sleep and how bad I would feel the next day. That was keeping me in my cycle mostly.

Sleep, fatigue, mood, constipation, and brain fog can easily be cured by replacing water only with a bottle mixed with creatine electrolytes and sea salt. Sip it all day long - your body will start to crave more of it

A few years ago I had occasional heart racing episodes. Went to a cardiologist and ran every test available with nothing showing up. Then forwarded to a neurologist and he asked a few questions about my sleep and if I had migraines. And I like many here I couldn’t get through a full night usually waking up around 2:30. What I chalked up as minor sinus headaches( a couple per week) he said was probably migraines so he put me on a low dose of Amitriptyline which is an old antidepressant but has many uses. Anxiety being one. The results have been good as I sleep better, no migraines and no racing heart episodes.

Might be something to ask your Dr about. It’s not addictive btw as my neurologist said I can get off of it anytime but the one time I tried I reverted to my old ways. One side effect is possible weight game but I haven’t had much. Maybe 5 lbs over the last few years. I chalked that up to drinking more being a State fan. 😕

Don't disagree, but good Drs know how to handle it. Find a good one. I know mine will not prescribe it but I've seen plenty of people and Drs handle it.

I don't sleep worth a crap, but I have done things to help.

1) 55 mins of exercise in the morning. 1/2 cardio. 1/2 weights.
2) Air purifier in the bedroom.
3) Shower before bed.
4) No caffeine after lunch.
5) If I can't relax while lying down, I will put in very small corded earbuds and listen to a podcast. That typically zonks me out in 5 mins. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I will put them back in and start the podcast over again. I typically put in something boring like long-form history pods.

About twice a month, I will get RLS, and I haven't found anything that works. Those nights are a lost cause. I just have to power through the next day.

You'd be incorrect. There is no 8 hour rule. That was created via the Industrial Revolution and people have just accepted it as truth.
I take Calm by Bravenly along with very low doses of magnesium and melatonin and I'm actually sleeping well for the first time in my life. Was taking their Drift too but there was some duplication of things and the cost was too much. Calm is expensive but so are Dr visits and medication. I eliminated caffeine after 10 am too.

As someone who has had major sleep issues at different chapters, I can relate.

One of the primary drivers is the neurosis/anxiety that you've likely developed in anticipation of sleep; it was for me. The way I dealt with it was with the following tools (beyond what other people have mentioned)-

If you're married, try sleeping alone for a week to see if it takes some pressure off of you to not disturb your partner. If it works, it proves that you can sleep, which is a big step to breaking the neurosis.

Also, the best thing I did to break my worst insomnia stint was to do meditation and/or yin yoga. Google yin. It's basically giving yourself permission to stop thinking and slow down. As westerners, we're not very good at separating our day from our night.

Good luck, I know it sucks.

I actually drink a mixture of sea salt, creatine, hydrogen tablets and amino acids every morning.

I have an uncle with RLS and he swears by some weed gummies. Delta 8 or 9, don't remember which.
