Finally got a smoker that Ive been wanting for Christmas from the wife.

Now to go along with it I need to get a remote thermometer with two probes at least. One for smoker temp other for in the meat. So Ive been looking at there seems to be some decently priced units from Maverick and ThermoPro available that use RF handsets I believe. Also there is the iGrill2 that uses bluetooth to sync with your phone or tablet as the handset.

Any experience with any of these? Range of bluetooth varieties? Other directions I should go? Any help/thoughts appreciated.

I have had the Maverick ET-732 for about 4 years now. I have had to change out 1 of the 2 probes. I think that is because the one got submerged in water. Just light scrubbing with a sponge and soap is all I do with them. Really happy with it.

Which smoker did you get?

Smoke hollow pro 44. Gasser which might turn off some purists but Ill admit I wanted to be able to be lazy and not tend a fire to maintain temp. Did a couple rack of ribs yesterday and it did a nice job. Only bad thing is my 5 year old son and 9 year old daughter both learned from dad and love ribs too.

Might give the Maverick a try at least once if I can get it for a decent price then.

I got tired of the sensors on the Maverick going out so I went with a Tappecue with the probes that are covered at the joint. Way more expensive, but it works well. You can track your sessions from phone or tablet via your wi-fi in the house. You can also graph your smoking sessions to see how your cooking time went. I don't use this feature a lot, but have.

Screw the purists, you've got a smoker and the kids like it. Well done. I started with a Weber kettle indirect heat set up.
