Can you post some of the photos here?Daughter hit the Florence buc ees tonight and she said it looks like a small target. She sent pics. Wow
How big is a "small" Buc-ee's? South of the Border is undergoing renovation according to published reports.
Gas is rising daily. It's hard to establish a baseline. When I was at the Daytona Buc-ee's back in February, they were selling gas about 15 cents per gallon cheaper than the other interstate stops. Was in there around lunch time on Tuesday. It was a mad house. Got a chopped brisket sandwich. It was really good. Wanted a brisket taco but was told they stop making tacos @ 11:30am. Gas was $4.29.9/gal. Disappointed in that I thought they would be running a special for the "Grand Opening".
Analysts predicting $6 gas this summer.Gas is rising daily. It's hard to establish a baseline. When I was at the Daytona Buc-ee's back in February, they were selling gas about 15 cents per gallon cheaper than the other interstate stops.
To me, it's a sign that they are paying attention and will continue to adapt as needed.Just got back from Buc-ee's. They are swamped but they can handle it. I noticed there were probably 10 or 12 Tesla charging stations at the edge of the parking lot. This would be a recent innovation for Buc-ee's.
You would expect that, plus the REAL money is made inside the store. So, anything to get people inside the store. My son-in-law and I dropped about $200 between us last night and we were pikers compared to many of the people in there. To me, it's a sign that they are paying attention and will continue to adapt as needed.

It's axiomatic.Convenience stores as a whole make their money inside the store, not at the gas pumps.
Could it be that the place across the road is trying to survive?Family is traveling back up to PA from SC today. Stopped at Buc-ees on the way back. Gas was 9 cents more expensive there than at Pilot across the highway. Also no squeegees or paper towel to clean your windows.
Could at be that the place across the road is trying to survive?
Gas is only one of the reasons people go to Buc-cee's. When I was at the one in Daytona earlier in the year, they were 18 cents below the other interstate stops I saw. I guess market dynamics vary from place to place. Admittedly this was before the latest run-up in prices. I sense that they are very nimble in what they can do.Probably, but cheaper gas is cheaper gas.

Buckee's coming in Anderson on I-85 soon. QT has made a major move saturating the upstate of SC with the same philosophy but smaller scale. More than a gas station, and many stop for food and drink only. Bought gas there today for $408.9. One of their managers told me they were preparing to become more of a food destination in the event the gas business declines.Gas is only one of the reasons people go to Buc-cee's. Tell me you’ve never been to Buc-ee’s without telling me you’ve never been to Buc-ee’sAre we ACTUALLY excited about a convenience/gas store? My God I'm glad I don't live in South Carolina!
Knock yourselves out, y'all!

Yep, it's a destination and people plan trips around going to Buc-ees! Huge one just opened in Texas. To be fair, it's not just SC. It's an event when a Buc-ees opens anywhere. I can't say I get it, but folks go crazy for it. People drive out of there way just to go by a Buc-ees.
It's the sheer size of the stores and well as food and other offerings which attract patrons. Are we ACTUALLY excited about a convenience/gas store? My God I'm glad I don't live in South Carolina!

Gas is usually several cents cheaper at Buccees than anywhere else nearby (they sell in incredible volume). From a picture online, it looks like they have ethanol free gas. That would be the biggest draw for me.
Same here. I travel a lot for business and I’m a lifetime Diamond member with Hilton. I look for Hampton Inns or Hilton Garden Inns when necessary.Motels/hotels have generally been my go-to place to go.
If the timing works out, I hope to go to Nashville next year to watch USC-Vandy baseball. There's a Buc-ee's off of I-75 in Calhoun, GA halfway between Atlanta and Chattanooga, and I'll make a point of experiencing Buc-ee's then.
It’s called eye level marketing. People pull because of the big sign for the price per gallon but don’t question the price of a gallon of milk inside the store.Convenience stores as a whole make their money inside the store, not at the gas pumps.
Buccees isn't for the "stay at the Hilton" crowd. Buccees is for the "taking the kids on a four hour drive to Grandmas and half way there need to gas up and go to the bathroom and wow, look at all the candy and Slurpee's."Same here. When I lived in Texas the local Racetrac convenience stores sold Borden's milk for less than grocery stores, might even have sold it for less than they paid just to get you in the store. The practice is called Loss-Leader.It’s called eye level marketing. People pull because of the big sign for the price per gallon but don’t question the price of a gallon of milk inside the store.
Don't know anyone in Texas that considers Buc-ees a "destination".People drive out of there way just to go by a Buc-ees.

We do like their restrooms. So what? Buc-ees has been operating in Texas for 40 years and has about 40 stores around the state. It's not a destination to Texans because, for one thing, it's all over the place and, for many Texans, it's something that's just always been there. But that's obviously not what we're talking about here. Make no mistake, though, Texans love Buc-ees:

Weekend afternoons are the worst. Evenings are noticeably better.Well, we stopped by on our way back up from the beach today. Added about 45 mins to our trip to swing through Florence, mostly to stop by Rivals to get a Gamecock shirt. Hit Buc-ee's on our way out of town. It's interesting and seems nice. The main problem is all the people. We gassed up, used the restroom, grabbed a couple sodas and were going to look around a bit at the different snacks and such, but we were constantly weaving around people. We just grabbed a couple bagged snacks and hit the road.
I'd stop by one again sometime if it wasn't crawling with people. But it wasn't worth it to me to swim through a sea of humanity.
