OT: Solar panels

In the process of purchasing a new house and I was wondering if anyone on here has ever retrofit solar panels onto a roof and gotten any gain out of it. I live in New Orleans and don't have any trees overhanging to cause shade issues.<div>
</div><div>Just something I've always heard about but dont actually "know" anyone who has done it. Pluses? Minuses? Is it worth the effort?</div>

Up in Coach34-Port. He always says there's a big tax benefit to getting them. Not sure how it works, but I would look into that.

Think the standard breakeven point on just energy savings is about 10 or 15 years.
