No. 1st answer is hard in that the story was told to me the niece of the player who I know very well. It was her dad that the scout first came to see.
He once coached In the ACC and used to sprint to the dugout from the outfield.
2nd answer is one of the best pitchers ever. Rumor has it he made the comment after Rose tried to climb the wall after a Mickey Mantle 450 ft home run.

Right. Met him at funeral for his sister-in-law who was my high school teacher.
It was her dad who was killed in tractor accident. I had forgotten he followed Tom Butters as baseball coach. Next answer is Whitey Ford.
You are up.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded former Duke star Christian Adolph Jurgensen to the Washington Redskins for former Wake Forest star Norm Snead.

Operating under the assumption that I'm supposed to posit a question, I'll go with another Jurgensen-related question.

Sonny Jurgensen attended New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC. Name the other NFL QB great from the same era who also attended that high school.

Sky good job! Knew you would know buddy....I hated when it happened because Murcer (along w/"Stott") were my fave Yanks...Roy White was too! OFC

A hopefully interesting sidebar. In high school, in rural eastern NC in the mid 1960s, we had a student teacher who had grown up in the Bronx and had gone to Yankees games all the time. Very exotic, especially to a Yankees fan like me who could only dream of Yankees Stadium.

Who was his favorite Yankee? Well, he grew up in an era that included Mantle, Maris, Ford, Berra, even guys like Howard, Pepitone, Tresh, Stottlemyre, Richardson. But his favorite Yankee was Hector Lopez. Seriously. Never figured that one out.

But I applaud your choice of Murcer and Stottlemyre. Two of the good guys who kept it going between the championship eras.

Thank you and you said it very well: "two of the good guys." Very interesting sidebar btw!

Sounds good Sky! OFC

Jim Sumner did a fantastic job of running down some Yankee greats, but Sky I dont know if any of the greats made that kind of $$ back then. As I get older the memory fades.

Geez, dont know where to start but Sky I am just going to throw it out there because I think AT LEAST one is probably someone we don't expect. Going with Sparky Lyle, Stan Bahnsen and Ron Blomberg. OFC

You all know I don't like these to linger on whether the answer is easy or difficult so here's hint #1. All of them wore single digit numbers. I'm gonna require for the person who gets to ask the next question to get all three right. Not 2 or 3 different posters to get just one right. You can guess as many players ashould you want but I want the three in the same post. For example name the 3 Alou brothers. Jesus, Felipe and Matty.. That very there is a clear cut winner. OFC

DiMaggio infamously held and got pummeled by the front office in the media for being "greedy", so I would guess Joe D. for 1.

Need all three in the same post. That way there will be a clear cut winner. Not three people that get one each. You can use other posters answers. Going to bed at 11 so here's then next hint. All 3 numbers are retired but one is retired under another player's name. OFC

He did become a star in the league with another team out west. He also starred in college for a team out west. He had a nickname from a cartoon character.
