One more hockey question, then I'll move back to the usual questions.

USA beat the Soviet Union in the 1980 Olympics in Ice Hockey. But the US still had one game left. Who did they defeat to clinch the gold medal?

The format, for the record, was a round-robin style where the top 4 teams advanced to the final round.

How is Pete Carroll not correct? He won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks and I can think of at least 4 Rose Bowls that he won at USC... Michigan x2, Illinois, Penn State. Maybe one or two of those are vacated? But I doubt all four are vacated.

Correct you are. Wake Forest 1955 and Uva in 2015, iirc.
Florida State is making their 23rd appearance in the World Series, 17th for Mike Martin without a single title.

dukedevils, you're up. sorry DukefanKY my mistake replied to wrong post.

Crazy how poorly the ACC has performed in the CWS. Not including this year, we've had 94 total appearances from our conference - and just two titles. The Pac-12, on the other hand, has 29 national tiles in 101 appearances. They win when it matters, and our conference doesn't, for whatever reason. FSU, Clemson, and UNC are 1-2-3 for all-time CWS appearances without a title.

Keeping it with the sport... There have been 4 national champions in baseball this century that come from a conference outside of the Power 5. Name 3 of those 4 non-power schools that won a title.

I remember Wichita State, and Cal State-Fullerton, also a Carolina school recently winning it. I want to say East Carolina, but ESPN made a point that they never made it to the CWS despite many deep runs when they bowed out in the super regionals this year. Coastal Carolina ???

Cal State Fullerton and Coastal Carolina are both correct. Wichita State has won a title, but it wasn't this century.

Two teams still up for grabs.

I can’t remember if they won it or not, but I know Rice had a run during the 2000s where they were a pretty regular participant in Omaha. Or Pepperdine?

Rice is correct, they won a title in 2003. Pepperdine won the CWS in 1992. The other school missing is Fresno State, who won it 2008.

The answer was split up between @dukiejay and @dtodd4475. Whoever's ready first can fire away!

I'll give a quick NBA Finals one.

Who is the only Finals MVP to lead not only his team, but all players on both teams in all 5 major statistical categories ( points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots) for the series.
