Little 17ers are chewing holes in the facing of my house. Anyone know if it is illegal for me to shoot? I know it is to shoot a gun in Madison, but what about hunting laws? What about trapping and releasing 5 miles away? Is that legally kosher?

Put a dish with rat poison balls dipped in peanut butter. They will eat them and die....until the little bastards learn by watching not to eat them any more. Plus, I had a chemist give me something to add to my house paint that would kill them when they chewed on my house. That finally broke the ill suckers from eating my house.

Usually relocating wildlife is frowned on due to risk of spreading disease. I know you are supposed to kill a nuisance coon if you catch one, but not positive about squirrels.

+ 1 for the pellet gun, especially if it's high powered. Also doesn't hurt to have an evil *** cat. We have a cat that kills snakes, mice, moles, and has even killed several squirrels. We see squirrels walking the powerlines on the border of our property and also in our neighbor's trees but I couldnt tell you the last time I saw one actually attempt to come in the yard. Now, armadillos are another story! I've got three that I'm having a time getting rid of!

Crossman with scope from Academy less than $200.00. 1100 fps with hollow point pellets are pretty lethal. This is what I use to defend my "Madison home". After the little bastards chewed into my attic. Better make a hobby of killing them though. They can breed faster than you can kill them.

I've been trapping and putting them in the witness relocation program for about 2 years now. Have caught and relocated about 200 squirrels in about 2 years. Unbelieveable.

Take 'em to Mrs. Kay. She'll cook them and show you how to eat the brains.

One thing to watch out for. My Mom had them chewing their way into her attic in Madison about 8-10 years ago. She had a trapper come out and get a ton of them. The next day she had the house repaired and sealed back up. The entry point was the eaves under the edge of the roof. When she got home from work there were about 8-10 squirrels squealing and making a ton of noise in the exact spot that had been repaired and they were gnawing their way back in. Turns out there were babies inside that had been left behind and this group of squirrels was like the Marines coming to get them out. Trapper didn't charge for his 2nd trip out b/c he knew he should have caught this on his 1st visit.

Be careful on poisoning them before you have the entry point sealed up b/c you really don't want them crawling up to die inside your attic.

CCI 22 Long Subsonic. I've been using these for almost three years. You'll never run out of "targets", but I have noticed a drastic reduction in the number of squirrels I see around my house now. No longer any problems with them chewing on things.

Don't know if this is true or not, but I've had 3 different people tell me to spray some kind of urine(I want to say fox piss) on the siding. Said they won't come within 50 ft of the area you spray. Now, where you get that, I have no idea though

Problem with a shotgun is I live in city limits, I shot earlier this year with my sweet 16 and had 3 cops in my front yard before I could get back in the house after loading the thing in the bed of my truck to haul it off. Not really a problem since most law enforcement around here are friends but its an added hassle that I don't really care for. I have since gone to a 22 but the buggers hear me outside and take off before I can get a good bead on em. Some things gotta give, they've burrowed up underneath my house

This is what I use too...I fed the first two to the cat and I think that got her liking the taste. After that she has taken care of more squirrels than I've shot at

Taste way better than chicken. My don killed 6 in our yard last weekend. They were great with biscuits and gravy. We do this once or twice a year. Pellet gun is the way to go.

If they are in your attic or sheds, use some mothballs. They hate those and will leave. Don't use alot of them or it will run you out of the house as well. Once they leave, seal the openings

To keep them out of your attic, put a few drops of peppermint oil on cotton balls and toss them in your attic. Do it every two or three months. It works on all rodents. It works well in classic cars and recreational vehicles.

My 4 wheeler wasn't running right so I started checking stuff. Those little 17ers had filled the air filter housing with hickory nut and acorn shells. Then chewed the foam off the filter to make a comfy crash pad.

I've tried moth balls and it didn't work

The only way I could get rid of them in my attic was to use a trap, baited with apple and peanut butter, then carry them off. Once I just let them loose in my yard and they were back in the attic before I got back in the house. They're smart enough to catch on to the apple/peanut butter trick after a while though. And of course, you have to seal the entry points which is not that easy. Might have to get a roofer ... I don't have an affinity to crawling around on a 12/12 slope two story roof.

I think they might have found a way back in now though. I've heard noises in the chimney chase, and what appears to be between floors. Might be mice.

I saw one hop on my roof a few days ago and he had his mouth full of leaves. He appeared to be making a nest somewhere ... I just hope it's not inside the attic.

Squirrels can be dangerous too

Two years ago (on Christmas Eve, of all days) a house in my neighborhood burned to the ground. It was worth about $500K. The fire started in the front of the house, and the owners were sleeping in the rear. They escaped, and got one car out, but the house and contents were a total loss.

The apparent cause was squirrels chewing through electrical wiring in the attic.

Years ago went on a picnic at a state park in Arkansas with friends and relatives. Wife left a chocolate cake on the concrete picnic table while we all went on a hike. The cake was in one of those plastic cake carrier deals. Anyway, when we got back the cake had been knocked off the table and half of it was eaten. There was a squirrel on the ground nearby looking somewhat sickly but he had a big smile on his face.

GAMO .177 Whisper pellet gun with a 4X scope. Built in noise suppressor. Sounds about like a BB gun but 1200fps. Like the "Stork" maneuver in Karate kid-- "No can defend"

I have two Cairn Terriers, their score is 6 squirrels, 3 possums, an armadillo, countless moles, voles, mice and rats. I can rent them to you!
