Lots of great music here… the midcarders that impress me are…

Rattlesnake Milk — Saw them at Lucero Family Christmas in ‘24

Hogslop String Band — Missed them with Paul Cauthen canceled his show at Duling Hall last year. Still want to see them.

Mountain Grass Unit — They’re on my list to see too.

Are you subsidizing tickets for us poors?

Never mind, they are offering a payment plan, that is just my bag

That’s a good festival but the prices and travel expenses…

I 17ing hate festivals. Bunch of short sets, at the mercy of the weather, can’t get good views, and now ridiculous prices. If I want to see a band I’m going to see the headline on their tour.

Yeah… I’d love to see acts perform full sets too…

There are some festivals I like.

Cathead and Jimmie Rodgers are both great.

There’s a venue at Little Egypt in Illinois with weekend festivals that I love… the problem with it is that it’s too far from cities and hotels. Scenic but longish commutes which means it’s difficult to get great crowds even with awesome lineups…

Left Over Salmon…a blast from the past. Caught them at Hal and Mals in the early 2000’s. Awesome band.

Let's be clear though, even regular concerts cost $150+ these days to see to opening acts and a headliner. I prefer outdoor venues and lots of acts vs arena concerts.

I haven't been to UTBS since 2022, but the day I went Turnpike headlined and played for a solid 2 hours. It's a great lineup every year if you like Americana - Bluegrass -Throwback country.

Travel costs are subjective. We are in Whitefish from Father's day to the end of July this summer so it's moot. I probably won't get tickets until it gets closer and we see who all wants to go on what days (my 12 year old is going to want to go Friday to see OCMS and Jinks.)

When Stephen Wilson Jr is down the list, it's a strong list.

Also CWG, Marcus King, Greensky Bluegrass, and Old Crow Medicine Show... might be worth a trip out there.

That’s the truth.

I complain a little but I figure I spent around $5,000 on live music and related travel in 2025 so the money Bulldawg77 wants from me is going to things that entertain me and not MSU football— a.k.a. the Morrissey of the SEC because most of the time they don’t show up to play…

(Dammit. That’s good. I might have to create an SEC football teams as rock musicians thread.)

I do…

I went to Blue Ox in Wisconsin that same year. I was able to break up my trip by seeing some other acts perform and visiting family on the way up and back…

Eau Claire still reached 90 degrees but at least there wasn’t much humidity.

I have to conserve my vacation time nowadays.

I used to accumulate it when I had my state position but it’s use it or lose it with my current employer and more often than not I’ve been using vacation time on family things. The joys of parents in their mid-80s who think they are independent…
