Someone check in on those poor folks in Manville. I swear that town always gets the worst of it.

So far, I think we’ve escaped the real nasty stuff in southern Hunterdon on the PA border.

Ok, corrected graphic for the last 6 hours; almost 6" in Mountainside and 2-5" for many, although not much south of 195/276 in SEPA/SNJ.

About 3 in my area..
4" now at my house in Metuchen, despite the radar only showing 2-3" - obviously radars are much less granular than a rain gauge at someone's house. Lots of flooded roads all over Edison/Metuchen, although fortunately, the worst of the rain is now SE of 95 and not as insanely heavy as it was earlier, which is exactly what the NWS predicted, i.e., less towards the coast.

Drove Rahway/Linden to Kearny at 4pm. 1/9 was starting to flood right lane. Light out at Wood Ave. TPK was just starting to flood at 4:30pm but luckily at that time by EWR rain hadn't really started yet.

Well, it has been a rough couple of events in my town. I was lucky in both with no tree damage and minimal water in the basement - sump pump took care it. I only get water with something like this and Ida. The people off Green Brook Road and on the West End got hammered again - only 11 days apart. Feel horrible for those people. 22 is in rough shape. The animal shelter (used to be the Plainfield Area Humane Society, can't recall the new name) lost everything after their yard had been trashed during the July 3 storm. Sad day. Hopefully NP can catch a break for the rest of the summer.

Some crazy video of the NP streets turned into raging rivers.

Yeah, around those particular streets and sections of town, there are a couple of brooks that come together. Combine that with the run off coming down the Watchung Mountains and you get that. Generally, it's not a problem. But when you get 6+inches of rain in a little over an hour, you are screwed.

Anyone want to see a nice break from the heat and humidity? After a humid, possibly showery weekend and a mini 3-day heatwave next week with highs in the 90s on 7/29-7/31, a strong cold front sweeps through around next Thursday and brings below normal to maybe normal temps (i.e., low/mid 80s and generally lower humidity) for at least a week after that, as per the graphics below from the Climate Prediction Center. Can't come too soon for me. Snow can't be far behind, lol.

Well, the heat is certainly on. Did a bunch of yard work early in the morning, then played a round of disc golf and did some course maintenance (weed whacking) through about noon and I was drenched. Upper 90s nearly everywhere right now with EWR at 100F (and Haworth in Bergen Cty) and it should be similar tomorrow.

The Thursday cold front now looks like it'll be slower moving and accompanied by some heavy rain with 1-3"+ likely for many/most from Thursday morning through Friday morning. Things still look to clear out by Friday afternoon/evening and the weekend still looks to be gorgeous with highs only around 80F with low humidity on Saturday and similar on Sunday and likely Mon/Tues at least (with highs in the low/mid-80s).

Not really what I wanted to hear. Those slow movers cause trouble with flooding.

Yep, could be some flooding in areas that get the heavier rainfall amounts of up to 3", especially with fairly saturated ground and relatively high stream/river levels from months of wet conditions.

Update on the rain. Could be some significant flooding rainfall Thursday into Friday morning during strong t-storms with 2-4" possible for most, as per the NWS graphic below. Given saturated soils and already high stream/river levels from months of wet weather, urban and stream flash flooding is a significant risk for this event. Be careful out there.

Meanwhile in Lakewood the annual idiot parent award goes to this guy. How stupid do you have to be to leave a child in the car as hot as it was yesterday? Tragedy avoided thanks to a Lakewood police officer who noticed the child in the car and got him out after he was in there for 24 minutes. Dad was arrested upon his return to the vehicle

I was gonna post this. I don't remember seeing it level 3 for a while. I gotta work a late shift today in Orangeburg NY. 6:30 start time I'll be leaving here (Mercer) around 3:45. Ride is gonna suck. Hopefully it's not as bad as they are speculating.

Edit: this post helped me to learn that On3 will automatically hide foul language. I definitely did not write 4 asterisks.
