I've never believed for one second that Elon Musk spent $40 Billion of his money just to get his political opinions heard. Here's what I think is actually going on. Tesla is a largely successful company but nearly half of it's US sales are in the state of California, arguable one of the most liberal states in the county. The Tesla brand has taken on the image of being a car for the "latte liberal" so much so that it's shunned and even mocked and ridiculed by some on the right.
That type of extreme branding is preventing Teslas from penetrating markets in red states. It's an image problem, which in my opinion may have factored into his decision to move his facilities to Texas, as well as buying the second largest social media platform to reinvent himself and his brand.
So to see where Twitter is going, follow the money.
A lot to unpack there. No doubt some truth in that. Elon saying he was done with the Democratic Party prior to buying Twitter was also most likely a calculated business move as well. So what?
So basically what you are saying is that Elon figured out that going woke means going broke. Exposing woke shadiness, on the other hand, is a smart business move. Great. Hopefully it winds up being a very profitable move, every business owner in America follows his lead and wokeness will die a quick but excruciatingly painful death. One can only hope.
Also...Elon moving Tesla facilities out of Cali and into Texas was for the very same reason Toyota HQ and many, many other big companies (and individuals for that matter) have left Cali in recent years...it’s the single worst state for a company to operate a business. High regulations, high taxes, high cost of living, high crime rates, low prosecution rates for said crimes, etc...
Check out these numbers from the Hoover Institute:
The Hoover Institute put out the raw numbers of just how many large companies have moved their headquarters in their report, and the numbers were higher than many people expected. In 2018, only 46 had left. In 2020, 75 had left. And in 2021, a whopping 153 companies left California
Until Cali changes it’s policies there will be no end in sight.
I’ll just end with this...
Follow the money. That’s an outstanding idea. What was keeping Twitter afloat before Elon bought it? It will be interesting if that winds up being revealed at some point. Follow the money indeed.
