For those receviing the alumni emails --- Anyone puzzled by the onslaught of bizarre fundraising?

This month they are asking for donations to purchase books for students and staff.

A large Unversity which charges a hefty price tag for education and has over a billion in endowment funding needs help to purchase books?

A few months ago it was about gettng quality food to the students.

IMO, this is the equilavent of St. Jude's sitting on their $8+ Billion while they use the majority of their funding making marketing videos of kids to bring in more donations.

"At USC, literacy is about more than reading. It is about opening doors. Our University Libraries give every student, from first-generation freshmen to graduate researchers, the tools they need to succeed."

I used to get emails and calls from them, but was able to stop it all over time. I quit when I received a call from a student fundraiser and she botched my name, then laughed when I corrected her. At least it appears they've done away with the stupid UofSC crap.

In my day the professors would assign textbooks they wrote. Cui bono. If that's still going on then they're essentially asking alums to pay a subsidy for their instructors.
