If you are single, I'll recommend K5. You'll also run into some of the embassy marines there.

If you have time, see if you can catch an opera at the Vienna Opera House (Wiener Staatsoper). Not an opera fan, but one of the most amazing places I've ever been. The history surrounding that place is amazing as well. Also, if you are in Vienna when the Christmas Market is happening, that is a must.

Prague is great

Hey guys.. Working in Austria and Czech in a few weeks. I wanted to get some suggestions on things to see in my spare time if anyone has been.

It's a beautiful city. Has 2 castles. Used to be dirt cheap. Still affordable per European standards. Great beer, great food. Get the Czech goulash. Interesting nightlife with beautiful women.

I've heard Cesky Krumlove is very picturesque if you are into checking out quaint villages.

Vienna is nice but seemed kind of sleepy to me. Lot's of old Hapsburg castles and stuff to see. Also good beer and wienersnitzchel (sp).

Munich isn't far away either.

In Vienna - See an opera. Go to the Prater's amusement park if it's open (closes on October 31). Have coffee at Cafe Central. Go to Schoenbrunn. And of course I would recommend The Third Man walking tour of the city: Link. I just wish that particular tour existed when I was there.

Vienna is one of my favorite cities in Europe. Visited there a few years ago. Without a doubt, visit Schönbrunn Palace. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schönbrunn_Palace Karlskirche, Hofburg Palace, Neue Burg, St. Stephen's Cathedral, and the Rathaus are also must-sees. Just meandering through the streets in and around Stephansplatz is worth the time. Every time you pass an alley you'll look down and see some amazing building. Enjoy!

If your married, you can have fun sightseeing. If you're single you can have the time of your life. #1 beer drinking country in the world, and the women don't have any hang ups whatsoever. Plus they're beautiful.

Prague is great. Vienna is not. Salzburg is worth the journey. Budapest is can be done in a daytrip from Vienna. Dresden (and Leipzig) can be visited from CR. Read Trip Advisor message boards.

Weather won't be great. Germans (in Eastern Germany) say the Czechs have better beer. Eat some Schnitzel (and some Vienna sausages**).

Buy rail tickets point-to-point and in advance. Rail passes are a waste of money.

I spent a week in Leipzig this Summer, and unless you happen to be a big fan of Bach, there really isn't much there.

Dresden is certainly the more beautiful city, but if you spent a week in Leipzig and didn't visit the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, your and idiot.
