I have some 2, 4-D. I may give it a shot. But I have to look into it more. After reading about this species linked above by Pride and Joy, to survive, it needs to be near the surface otherwise the seeds will stay dormant for centuries. I have 52 yards of dirt being brought into build up the area and plant some trees and pasture grass, so I may end up just suffocating the little turds instead. I don't want the 2,4-D messing with newly planted stuff.

If I spray tomorrow and bring in some dirt and level the area next week and plant trees and shrubs by the first week of October, do you think it will be fine?

You have an ester or amine form of 2,4D? Amine hangs around a little longer in the soil. If you spray tomorrow at 1 pt/ac rate and give it 2 weeks along with bringing in topsoil you'll probably be fine but be SURE and call a professor in Forestry Management to confirm this. I'm a turf guy not a tree and shrub guy. If used, I'd go with the recommended lower rate and tank mix a surfactant with it. If you can get one that has both a methylated seed oil and a non ionic 90/10 that'd be good too.

Speaking of killing plants, what will kill Crepe Myrtle sprouts. I pulled up about a dozen of those suckers last year and now the roots are sprouting plants by the dozens all around where I pulled them up. I've tried pure 41% Roundup and it doesn't touch it.

I cut down a couple of Crepe Myrtle trees, and bunches of sprouts popped up. I'm just an old retired fart so this became a challenge. I got a very small paint brush and some Roundup. Every day I would go out and paint every sprout. Yeah it was tedious but i didn't have much else to do. After 4 or 5 weeks I guess the Roundup worked its way down to the big roots and killed them.

Dicamba instead of Roundup but be careful you don't want it to drift on anything you don't want to kill. It might take a few apps but it should kill'em dead.

Careful with the dicamba or 2,4-D this time of the year, especially if it’s tomato plants or other garden plants that are close by.

Back in the day I painted the lines on the local high school football field. First game we would cut the white paint with diesel fuel. After that we never had to measure or pull strings, all we had to do is paint the dead grass. It would take almost the whole year for the grass to grow back.

there are apps, the one I use is PlantNet, you can install on your phone that will identify plants, trees, etc.
