and what is needed to help it grow? The last time I tried it looked like my yard had the mange with spots of Burmuda scattered around the yard. I planted it in late March, and I think that's too early. I need help from some of you turf guys!

Wait until mid march to plans hulled bermuda. With the temps this year, you may could right now. You can plant unhulled bermuda right now.

generally, not considering global warming, it's in May.

Also, I'd take advantage of our tax dollars, and call my County Agent and ask.(he will be glad to answer the question)
95% of the time he is a MSU grad(I made that % up).

If you're seeding, wait until night time temps are consistently above 50 and daytime temps reach 70. If you pre-emerged last Fall, you won't get the results you want. Make sure you keep it wet and you should have a good stand of bermuda very quickly.

temp added to the night time low needs to be 120 minimum, so 70 deg days and 50 nts is the minimum. 80 deg days w/ 40 nts gives same result. What you are actually looking at is the ground temperature to heat the seed enough to germinate and that 120 rule says thats enough to warm the ground to the temp needed. That doesn't mean one night/day of those temps either, it needs to be consistent for awhile.

related but different question, what's your favorite weed and feed type product? I'm in NOLA and have what I would call grass of unknown origin but its probably as much weeds and clover as real grass at this point

Make sure that you keep the seed wet, not soaked, dont flood it. Just keep it damp. be sure to put down some fertilizer as a pre-plant, some kind of slow release fert scoots ar another brand will do. Low N hight P and K.

it's in a yellow bag. It works well getting rid of the clover I have in my burmuda sod around the house. I usually start using it around late May thenswitchto regular triple 13 a couple of times during the summer.
