Theres an old thread on Houston, but that was mainly the downtown area. I'm right by Lupe Tortilla in Katy, so I was wondering if there was anywhere else close that I should definitely hit while I'm here.

Thanks.

well first, hit up Lupe. There is not a better steak fajita in the world (go flour torillas) and a top shelf margarita. I am partial to their queso as well. As for other good meals in the area....Drive into Houston and go to RGD (formerly Cafe Annies), better have reservations. After that I can only offer local Houston fare. I hear there is a Steak and Shake in suburbia though. If you are into the drive, check out Feast, Marks, Backstreet Cafe, Eddie V's

Having lived and worked in Houston for 30 years - including off Eldridge by Lupe Tortilla -there are a number of good places along the I-10 feeder road strip headed back toward Houston. Not sure how many are ones that you should "definitely hit", but there are the Taste of Texas Steak House, Pappasitos (TexMex), Pappadeaux (seafood) and a couple of steak housesright next to the Memorial Mall, also on the same feeder road headed back to Houston. Most of the really good places (that are not downtown) to eat are on Westheimer between beltway 8 and the Montrose area. Ruggles, Americas (San Felipe), Churrascos, Cheesecake Factory,La Strada to name just a few. A little pricier, but pretty good food nonetheless.

I second Vic and Anthony's, but if you grill, and buy good meat, you can make just as good a steak. Pappadeux is great as well in your area. We get it catered all the time and their crawfish etoufee and seafood kabobs are the best this side of NOLA.

It's just west of the beltway on Memorial, I think. OUTSTANDING. And a nice local feel. Shouldn't befar from Katy.

If you've never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, you should drive down to Fogo de Chao on Westheimer between Beltway 8 and 610. Texas de Brazil is the copycat - FOGO is the original. Used to be, you couldn't go in there without seeing a couple of Texans, Rockets, or Astros. Be hungry when you go. I always liked Taste of Texas steakhouse also.

Also, find a Cadillac Bar and get a sangria margarita. I preferred the one on I-10 between 610 and downtown.

It's been about five years since I've been, but they had the best NY strip that I've ever eaten. It was FANTASTIC. But also HIGHLY pricy.

do a google search for City Centre which is in west Houston about 12-13 miles east of Katy just off I 10(couple of blocks south and just inside the west Beltway 8 also called the Sam Houston Tollway. Get off on the feeder road just past Wilcrest ..go under Beltway 8 in right hand lane and turn right on first road just east of Beltway 8). The Yardhouse is a popular restaurant. Also Eddie V's Steakhouse, Smith and Wollenski's Seafood(sp),BrioItalian, the new Texans Sports Bar and several other good restaurants, bars, wine bars. A very happening area. About 15 minutes due east of Katy.

Park in the parking garage just off I 10 tho...if you park just south of the CityCentre area in the Town and Country shops area you will get towed....

RDG Bar Annie and Feast... both of those places were extremely overrated.

I wish I knew more about the West Houston/Katy area... there are some neat cafe's out that way, but I don't know them well enough.

I did eat at Brennar's right west of the beltway on I-10and their crabcakes are 17'ing amazing.

but I've had better steaks at a lower price before. It wasn't terrible or anything, but I thought its price was a little higher than what it should've been.

I have always had a good meal at RGD, but it is very pricey. Lobster Meatballs, Crab Beignets, and quail salad are fantastic. The rack of lamb is amazing. As for Feast, it has been hit or miss, but I have had some of my best meals in houston there. Their pork belly is better than anyone's. Mark's is the best food in Houston though, unless all you can appreciate is steak.
