I started 3 days ago. Missed the first word, which was abbey. Didn't think about a double letter. Got the last 2.

Never heard of this but I can already tell from one day this is going to be addicting. Got today’s word on my last try.

Yes 9 for 9 so far. None on first or second try which is just a lucky guess at that point.

I just discovered this game about 5/6 days ago and I've gotten them all but I "cheat" and use google to give me options of 5 letter words for the early guesses to eliminate letters and positioning of letters. Then the 2nd to last or the correct guess I end up getting it on my own.

I don't know how many people do what I do but I give credit if you can do without using google at all.

I always start with the same word, adieu.

That’s a good one for vowels and elimination of them. I read raise is a good start word so I use that one. 3 vowels and 2 consonants that are fairly well used. I try do go with the whole wheel of fortune thing sometimes RSTLN E with some deviation.

I got today’s on the third guess. First word raise, second a little help from Google to pick a good one and then got it on third guess on my own.

This drives me crazy on my Facebook feed. It's half filled with this game. I'm glad people love it, but I don't really need to see the results of your game each day. Sorry, rant over. lol
The first place I saw this game was on the Twitter feeds of those sports reporters I post tweets on here for their news.

They just show each line with the green, yellow, gray boxes but not the letters in them. Just show how they progressed towards their correct guess. I don’t know how you post that way but I just assumed that’s the way it showed up if you shared. I just play for my own fun and don’t share my results but I guess that non revealing display of results isn’t the default then.

Once you solve there is a share button, are you doing the wordle.uk link on the web?

Yea that’s the one I’ve been doing. I’ve seen the share button but have never bothered to share it. I’m just doing it for my own fun. I just assumed the lines of colored boxes without the letters filled in was what showed up if one did share it. The way it appears on Twitter feeds.

I wouldn’t leave it up if I saw letters filled in cause then you might be ruining it for someone else like the β€œcomplaint” above.

The game does not allow you to post the answer, just the colored boxes showing how you got to the answer

Oh okay that’s what I thought but then there was a complaint above about people sharing results on FB.

Maybe screenshots or something like that I guess.
No, they are whining about the blanked out boxes version it would seem

Tried it for the first time this morning without google. Probably the quickest I’ve solved one…go figure lol. Used adieu as a start word for the first time too. Wanted to see if vowel elimination was a better strategy and it worked out okay.

Was that a clue? I didn’t think so. Sorry. Just mentioned I changed the start word to one that was mentioned earlier in the thread. It’s more a mention of a trial of general game strategy then a hint to today’s word. I don’t think it was any more helpful. It’s just a good start word.

It was the quickest I’ve gotten it in time not guesses. With Google I’d say it usually takes me 10 min or so. Today without Google for the first time probably about 4-5 mins ironically lol. Took me 4 guesses (most of the time it’s 4-5 guesses for me). Less time taken was probably just dumb luck more than anything.

I do them in the morning. I see it as a nice way to boot up the brain for the day lol.

While anyone who has ever watched Wheel of Fortune would have a head start on a strategy.. over time everyone will stumble on the correct strategy and that makes the game fairly easy, I think. Perhaps too easy to continue playing.

yeah.. a good one... 5 tries.. on PC they show you all the letters you have eliminated (first time I saw that.. and needed it).. had the first 3 in place on the 3rd guess... I got worried when guess 4 was no bueno.. not sharing the block graphic is the way to go I think. I got lucky on guess 5 because I had eliminated so many options that no 5-letter word popped out so I had to dig deeper.

Got it on the last guess too. 2nd one with no Google. Gonna see how many in a row I can get without Google. Oddly it seems to go faster for me without Google. I guess scanning 5 letter options to eliminate letters and placements is a slower process than racking your brain a little lol.

I don't particularly get the clue but it seems others complain too. If they didn't post in the first place I wouldn't have found the game.

Why would you bother playing the game at all if you utilized Google for guesses?

When I first discovered the game I wasn't really bothered to really filter through in my head the universe of 5 letter words that can eliminate letters and placements of letters while trying to maximize new info with each guess. Thought it would take too much time and it must be a big universe of options. Even with Google I still think it has value in choosing words that maximized new info and process of elimination etc...

Yesterday I'm like let me see what I can do just thinking about it and the words chosen aren't unheard of terms so give it a try. Funny enough, it's gone faster. I didn't expect that. Say instead of taking me 10-15 mins, it's about 4-7 mins.

I guess people who do this want a streak of "victories"?

As for the hints and strategy... I think using a sound strategy might make the game less "fun". It is pretty easy to think about a general strategy to use for ALL words... I am doing that and I think it makes the game too easy... though it did take me 5 guesses today and probably totally eliminates the ability to guess the right word in 1 or 2 guesses. Unless they get into a medical dictionary kind of word... I cannot imagine missing... and what "fun" is there in that? Today's difficulty surprised me so I'll try a few more days.

Also the other day the word was "shire". I actually had "shore" as my 2nd guess and had pretty much eliminated anything except "shire". Problem being, I have never heard of this word before but I guessed it anyway and it worked out. Turns out it's a common word in the UK that is never used in the USA. So there is that twist to it being based in the UK.

Less about streak of victories more that I don't want to waste too much time on it. Other than posts here talking about it I don't share my results other than 1 other person I know that plays it. I tell him too I used Google at first. It's a game, not a big deal and for my own fun. Now I've come to realize the words aren't unknown/unheard of words and while my guesses aren't fully maximized it goes quicker than with Google.

If not for Lord of the Rings, I wouldn't have gotten that one lol. I think it was also in Robin Hood but that didn't come to me while I was playing.

But the guy that developed the game lives in Brooklyn and caused an uproar in the UK when he uses the English spelling of the word "favor" & the Brits didn't get it until try #6 or not all all because they spell it "favour"
