DirecTV

All around better service. Better HD. They partner with ATT on internet, so you can get cheaper ATT internet if you have DirecTV. Comcast has serious audio issues. Audio will go out for no reason and you have to change the channel to fix it. The only thing that Comcast has on DirecTV is their On Demand.

"The only thing that Comcast has on DirecTV is their On Demand"....and their internet. If you can afford it and don't mind having 2 bills - I would get DirecTV and for internet - get Comcast.

I personally have Comcast for both and my only complaint is only being able to record 2 things at once.

That's why I have two boxes. Sadly, there are times where three shows I want to record are on. And that Hopper crap doesn't count, all streams need to be recorded in HD. At least last time I checked Uverse and the Hopper both could only record 1/2 in HD. BTW, I talked to TW the other day, and the lady on the phone told me that no matter what, I should never change my service, as I'm locked in like 50% below normal rates, thanks to our "negotiations" and price-lock usage a couple years ago. Every time I price out dish or anything it's much more expensive.

Also, OnDemand is awesome. I use it a lot.

Between those two I would go Directv, hands down...

...we switched from Directv to Uverse last week, and so far I am loving Uverse. Definitely like it a lot more than I thought I would and am saving about 60 bucks a month

The Hopper recrods all in HD

The Hopper records all Primetime shows on one tuner. so that frees up two tuners to record other things. everything can be recorded in HD. The only dumb parts is if you want to record Sunday Night or Monday Night football or other sports that go past 10 (central) you can't rely on the primetime because it won't record past the end of primetime. You have to set it up to record on one of the other tuners. I really like my hopper.

U-Verse is fiber-optic cable. Supposedly much higher quality signal than either cable or satellite.

I ditched AT&T internet several months back for Comcast, no real problems w/ AT&T just cheaper to bundle since I already had Comcast cable. I've had no problems at all. I have ROKU hooked to cable as well and last night there were 3 of us streaming wirelessly on tablets and I was watching House of Cards w/ ROKU/Netflix (great show by the way) and even w/ that much bandwidth being sucked up @ the same time no problems and I just have a lower/midlevel of internet speed, none of the fast gaming speeds. I don't have any recorders at all, didnt see a need w/ On Demand and all of the channels that stream on the internet now. If it weren't for ESPN I would dump cable all together and live off the Roku and local channels.

I was DirecTV (forTV) + Comcast Internet only for many years.

I switched to Uverse for both because I like their equipment better and because DirecTV wasn't carrying H2 in HD. Uverse has wireless whole-home DVRs. Can record HD on 3 channels simultaneously (plus a 4th if its SD). Drawback is no ability to auto-hide all SD channels. I had to scroll through a list and hide all damn 2,000 SD channels individually. Internet is good.

The only thing Comcast has going for it is CSS. But the rest of Comcast sucks so hard, I say stay away.

DirecTV has been getting steadily worse. They only offer the good deals to new customers (still won't give me Genie), which is great if you're a new customer, but all new customers eventually become old customers. It used to be that they'd work with you once your contract was up to keep your business, now it seems like they just don't care. It seems to me like the picture is worse than it was years ago, like it's gone from 1080p to 720i on most channels. Locals are always a problem, last year Jefferson Pilot or whatever it is now games were out for weeks. And they've started using some real shady billing practices. Mystery charges keep popping up. Rates keep drifting up unannounced. And i always decline their "specials" (3 months free of some collection of worthless channels, then you start getting charged), but somehow i'm being billed for it this month.

I've always rec'd DirecTV, but with it now running nearly $100 more a month than i can get cable for, it's days are numbered in my house.

Edit: Oh, and customer service is DEFINITELY worse. Approaching AT&T levels. AT&T is still the undisputed king of ****** customer service though.

My family has had Directv since the early 90s and now I have had it in my house for over 8 years. I've never ever had trouble with customer service. My swim switch went bad a couple if weeks ago, called customer service and was off the phone within 10 minutes with a serviceman coming to fix it the next day. The picture looks the same to me.

In Nashville CC seems to be the best for MSU sports. I've heard a bagillion DTV and uverse stories about not getting the games.....I can't think of the last state game I couldn't get on CC. Also, seems like I can always find state hoops on CC or espn3. Speaking of espn3 because of CC I can watch espn on my iPhone. I basically watched the entire 2012 sect on my iPhone.

Other than that I effin hate CC. Maybe with the SEC network deal it might make since to go uverse?????

My hood's had the fibre optic set-up for about 3 years now.

I upgraded to Genie with no issues less than a year ago at no cost - just had to sign another 2-yr contract. I've had DirecTV for over a decade and have never had any issues with any of the things that you listed.

I actually liked Comcast when I lived in Nashville and never had customer service issues. The iPhone ESPN app was a nice bonus too. But now that I'm back living in the Lee County boonies Comcast isn't an option. DirecTV has been as good or better. AT&T DSL sucks, but that's the only option for now.

Direct TV all the way. Just moved into a new home with solid walls. It was wired for TV in Great Room and MBR and we wanted TVs in guest room and garage (for our treadmill). Exterior wiring (which Comcast wanted to do) was not an option so we shifted to Direct TV which now has premiered a wireless Genie which broadcasts from our main TV to the others with mini - genies and no wiring required!

Plus - great reception, great programming, and great service. The only negative is a higher price (but worth it). The higher price is probably because in our area Direct TV doesn't have a phone company with which to bundle.

Comcast

is horrible for their tv services, but their internet is excellent. Their customer service is pretty terrible, though.

I dropped cable first of the year and went with rabbit ears and Netflix for entertainment. Using ATT dsl. But with football about to kick off, got the Comcast box this week and switched to their internet too. Their internet is hands down better than dsl. Plus I got all this as a new customer at a good price for 6 months. When it runs out, will probably drop cable again but keep Comcast's internet. Do it all over again next year. Netflix provides all the entertainment I need during the football off season, plus the free channels you get with an HD antenna.

So far, just UVerse has signed on. But hatfield is right, every major carrier will have the SEC Network. They all know they would lose a big chunk of their subscribers if they didn't.
