Why would somebody want to come play for an SEC program paying $1.7 mill a year???

"Somebody" would want to, but if the question is why won't Muschamp, Peterson or Leach, it's because if the choices are Mississippi State, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, and Washington.....guess where we will finish in that one??

Even if those three guys don't take the (soon to be) openings listed above, they could wait another year and cash in then at whatever comes open then for more money and in most years, a higher ceiling. And as long as they continue to do what they are doing at their current school, their price keeps going up.

I think we will get a good coach. I just think anyone who believes it will be one of the hottest names in college football is setting himself up for tremendous disappointment.

I don't think Leach leaves Tx Tech ever. He is a god there and has a great area to recurit from. Just my 2 cents

we will most assuredly hire a good coach...i really believe in Byrne...but we probably wont get a Muschamp or a Peterson...but ya never know...

Hell, give me Missouri or Texas's OC...I'd take that today...What about the Dolphins QB coach that was Nutt's OC at UPig?

There are so many names out there- LT just did such a horrible job of hiring a coach last time its sickening

he is rumored to be a scientologist. If that's true, you can cross him off the list.

If Leach would win, so be it, but I'd damn rather lose 3-2 with the Walrus than 56-49 with Leach (if he didn't win). Muschamp I just don't know about. I think Peterson might do well here.

Regardless, I'd take a proven 1-AA coach anyday. If he wins, the recruits will come (at least eventually). And to hit on Coach's question, I really don't care what his specialty is so long as he hires a good 'opposite' coordinator & leaves him the hell alone.

"but I'd damn rather lose 3-2 with the Walrus than 56-49 with Leach"

Putting up 49 points means that you have a great offensive plan and can score. That also means you have a chance to win every Saturday that you take the field...Thats why I said Mississippi would stay within 7 of Bama, because their offense is solid, and they just need a few stops to have a chance to win.

Getting beat 3-2 means you are beyond ****** on offense, and every time the opposing team scores 20 on Saturday, it pretty much eliminates your chance of winning...having that kind of pressure in this day and age on your defense is just beyond stupid

So basically this question is who do you like better......Croom or Ron Cooper.

Give me Cooper and eventually I will outscore somebody. We aren't out-preventing-them-from-scoring many teams under Crooms.

Washington - Jim Mora Jr.
Auburn - Muschamp
Clemson - dude at Va Tech or Bobby Johnson
Tennessee - I really don't know who they'd go after. The talk around here is Jon Gruden, but who knows - maybe Kiffin?

That scenario leaves Petersen for good ole MState. I think it could happen with GB's west coast connections too. It's a pipe dream, but it's not beyond reason that we could get to come here.

Hiring a scientologist isn't something that would go over well with most of the alumni. In fact, it would go over a lot worse than "not well."

Joe Pa and his wife are independently wealthy, they do not need one cent from Penn State. I will be quickly corrected if I am wrong, but I believe he donates his salary back for academic scholarships outside of the athletic department every year. Did you also know that Joe Pa played both sides of the ball (as most did in the dinosaur ages) playing QB and CB. He still holds the record for interceptions in a career at 14. He must have been some athlete because he also played two years of basketball while attending Brown.

recruits. I can only imagine what would happen when other staffs make sure that our recruits' parents know that our coach worships an alien that froze everyone 75 million years ago and buried them in volcanos. The homes we go into are usually devoutly Christian.

Did you know that L Ron created scientology on a bet? Back in the day, some of the top SF writers used all get together for roundtable type discussions. At one they were discussing religion and L Ron said that he could create a religion that would get all of his followers to give him all of their money. This story was told in an old book of "best of" of another writer that was there that night. The writer had a preface for each story this was in one about religion. I have the book. Interestly, in a new edition of the same book, the preface was changed to illiminate the story

Mora won't take the UW job since he'll is the coach in waiting for the Seahawks. What about former Nebraska Qb & current Buffalo coach Turner Gill? He lost out to Bo Pelini for Huskers job

He's tried to leave for the last few years (at least four). He threw his name in our hat.

For some reason, no one (other than TT) wants him. I've heard rumors why, but I don't know if they are true or not.

I was just trying to remember, but I guess I killed that brain cell. Coeds and/or heavy drinking come to mind, but I'm not sure.

In August 2006, Leach signed a five-year contract with Texas Tech that will pay him at least $10 million if he stays in place through 2010. Leach's guaranteed compensation will be $1.6 million in 2006, $1.65 million in 2007, $1.75 million in 2008, $1.85 million in 2009 and $2.15 million in 2010.

is his base salary paid by the university. They only released his salary from the university the legal documents filed did not get them the private information from tv show income and others such as Nike. They were only required to reveal the money paid from the public institution of PSU. The total listed above is an estimate of his total compensation.
