Bad news for Mississippi State's future.
It is a good day!!! Glad we got an AD to stay around.
Which is better. Having AD's who are courted and hired by some of the biggest programs in college sports, or having an AD who can't even get the job at his alma mater?
Selmon is a great AD. It is great because we can see his master plans come together instead of starting over every few years.

They are. It’s not his fault he inherited a sun belt run athletic department. He’s still digging out of the mess cohen left us with

BOC Hire, DWS Lighting, interlocking back, fixing NIL, an indoor practice facility for football coming, and the list keeps growing. He is our best AD since Greg Bryne. If you don't think so you are crazy. He took over a giant pile of crap that John Cohen had built.
You aren’t wrong, but unfortunately our football program is in shambles. It’s hard to get past that.
I wouldn't say its in shambles. Is it good, no. Is it terrible, no. I think its about average for MSU for the last 60 years. I do think this off season is pretty good.

In our storied history, we've really only had one great AD - Byrne. Selmon is head and shoulders above any of the rest of them. Glad to still have him around.

They actually are, the ones he actually is in charge of. ADs don't hire coaches in the big sports.
Byrne was way overrated. We haven't really ever had a great one. Carl Maddox probably came the closest. We have had some bad ones with Cohen perhaps being the worst AD in the history of the SEC.
Everything is just peachy keen. Meanwhile, literally no one wants to hire him away from us, even though rumors are he would like to get out.

Byrne fired Croom & hired Mullen shortly after becoming AD. Selmon hired Lebby shortly after becoming AD. Football hires matter.
Pretty sure Maddox was the AD who joined Bellard in turning down the 1980 SEC Championship, so....no.
I know people very close to him and actually talk to him weekly. He loves it here. Your rumors are just rumors.

The MFer continues to get a pass from me based solely on the Oak hire. Accordingly, I am not going to join the bash party.
What? We went 5-1 and Georgia went 6-0. There was nothing to turn down.
Had Florida beaten Georgia (late punt return gave UGA a 26-21 win), we would have tied with UGA and Alabama at 5-1 and got the Sugar Bowl bid because the rule at the time was in case of three way tie, the team who had the longest drought of Sugar Bowls got the bid. We still have never been to the Sugar Bowl because when we did win the SEC, it was before the Sugar/SEC traditional tie in and we went to the more prestigious Orange.
Only thing he's done is piss off big donors and BOC. Interlocking was heading back when Cohen was here.
We played in the Orange Bowl after the 1940 season…not after the 1941 championship season. I believe our team was stuck on the west coast due to the fallout from the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor.
I know nothing about the inner workings of state athletics. The feeling I get is that he was handed an absolute shiiiiit sandwich. He seems to have improved a lot of things since he has been there. He also has made quite possibly the most impressive hire in state history. The problem is that a bad football team overshadows everything.
He is raising money like crazy so big doners seem to like him. BOC is not pissed off, what are you talking about?
And way fewer State fans would be sour with him.
Like I said above, you can do every single other part of the job perfectly, but if the football team is a clown show, that is all anyone will notice
